    Thompson Center Hawken 50 questions

The really early ones had the case hardened guard and, interestingly, the patchbox was placed closer to the buttplate. One of these really early ones ( very low 4 digit) can be seen on Gunbroker right now, although it's a percussion. I believe the "T" stamp could be an addition made by a...

    Thompson Center Hawken 50 questions

There is a group called the Thompson /Center Association, you might want to " google " them. Some of their members specialize in Hawken info. They were very helpful to me when I needed information on a Hawken I owned. Their contact info. is listed on their website. That particular Hawken...

    Chiappa/Armi Sport 1855 Springfield

I have an 1853 Enfield made by Armi Sport ( before the "Chiappa" came into it.) Dependable, sturdy and accurate. Killed about 8 to 10 deer with it. Always just used patched round balls, never tried mini's. Had a gunsmith fabricate a taller front sight for it for hunting. The original, short...

    Stuck balls!

Murphy's law states: "what can go wrong will go wrong" I am sure that covers muzzleloading too. However..... I believe the vast majority of stuck ball problems can be attributed to two things: distraction and/ or haste. The best advice to the newby is to keep your head in the present. Tune out...

    Are you going to shoot??

In my opinion, this is a post full of common sense and identifies the problem correctly. I plan on shooting, moderately and conservatively.

The eternal TC Hawken stock drop dilema

Building it up with a piece of bar stock is certainly a possibility........curious, did you have to alter the front sight or did it work out that the height of the new rear sight stayed the same as the Cabela's original sight?

The eternal TC Hawken stock drop dilema

I started hunting with a TC Hawken fintlock many years ago. Through the years, I acquired many other muzzleloaders and sold the TC long ago. Lately, I wanted to get another TC Hawken in percussion, but wanted it to have a more traditional set of sights and a replacement barrel. Well, as luck...

    Considering quitting!

#1 IMO "means in my opinion", therefore I was speaking for myself. # 2 I didn't think this discussion was a platform for political rhetoric, I put forth none. #3 If there is anything to blame for the current shortages in firearms related supplies, it is the mass hysteria that was created by...

    Considering quitting!

IMO, none of this is a necessity, it's a sport and a hobby, and a great one at that. We should thank our lucky stars that waiting for percussion caps or round ball supply to return to normal is our big problem. Lowes is listing 5/8 in. OSB board for $45.67 a sheet. What if one was in need of a...

    Historical accuracy in big manufacturers

This is certainly a very interesting discussion and I am enjoying reading and thinking about the topic. Many of your comments remind me of my own evolution in muzzleloading. I started out with a TC "Hawken" back in the early '80s here in PA. I have had quite a few muzzleloaders since then. One...

    Yes or No on tacks

For me, a decorative element added to any form or piece of architecture has to have a reason for being added. Rusty points out symbolic reasons. Of course the reason can be aesthetic, if the decorative element plays up the form. It's up to you, you have a symbolic reason I...

    Ardesa Mountain Rifle

Yes, this seems to be the Ardesa version of the CVA mountain rifle. Has a little more embellishment but the basic structure is that of the kind they supplied to CVA. Has anybody got an idea of the bore twist? Roundball friendly like the older CVAs or middle of the road 1:48?

    Show me your TVM rifle

Here is my TVM Southern Mountain Rifle. .50 cal., 39 inch barrel, all browned metal, premium maple stock. I treated myself to this about 16 years ago when I got a long-awaited promotion on my job. Shot quite a few PA deer with it. Very fast lock and very accurate. By looking at prices, I would...
