    Speed load combo

Here is a loading block I made for hunting with my .58. The leather sleeve can hold a few caps if using a cap lock, or I switch out to a different sleeve to hold a pan primer for my flint lock.

    Squirrels???

I agree with you about the predators. I am seeing more bobcats in the past two years than I have seen in the last 10 years. The harsh restrictions on trapping here in CT has resulted in far fewer trappers. Trapping helps to control the predators like raccoons, possums, & skunks that eat the...

    Squirrels???

Anyone here in the Northeast (particularly CT) know where all the squirrels have gone? I haven't seen a squirrel in over a month. Normally I have 3-5 squirrels under my bird feeder at any one time. There are alot of hickory nuts and acorns currently in the woods, but I haven't seen a squirrel...

    Leaving Rifle Loaded

As an added precaution, I place a small party balloon over the muzzle and a empty .22 short case over the nipple, or a tooth pick in the touch hole of a flint lock to prevent moisture from entering. Have never had a hang fire, or failure to fire when doing this, and have left the gun loaded for...

WANTED Brass Patch Loop Cleaning Jag - Any Leads on Where to Find or Any For Sale?

Why not make one from an existing jag? Chuck the jag in a drill press or electric drill and use a file to bring it down to the diameter/taper you want. Then drill holes at 90 degrees and file them out, or use a dremel tool to make the slot. Shouldn't be too difficult.

The screw adjustable rear sight on the JBMR is almost identical to the ones on the Lyman Great Plains rifle.

    Lock Upgrades on Pedersolis

I suspect your ignition problems have to do with the Pedersoli patent breech. I have heard of some folks running a long, slightly smaller than caliber diameter, drill bit down to the breech and enlarging the patent breech area for better ignition.

    Shiny Stock?

I managed to pick up a nice used .54 flint long rifle with some nice brass inlays and incised carving. Unfortunately, the builder finished the stock with what appears to be a gloss polyurethane. What, if anything, can I do to dull the finish short of stripping it altogether and starting from...

    Homemade Squirrel Skinning Stand

You are correct, I messed up the procedure. Stepping on the tail is the correct way for skinning.

Blown out patches? bore, crown, patching material, lube where to start?

Get yourself a .50 caliber jag and put a 7/8" square of green scotch brite as a patch with a dab of JB bore paste. Give your barrel a good scrubbing (100+strokes or more). This should soften up the edges of the lands so as not to shred the patches, and accuracy should improve.

    Homemade Squirrel Skinning Stand

My field method for skinning squirrels in the "Step On" method. I slice the skin cross wise across the rump at the base of the tail. Insert my fingers to get the skin loose in both direction (head & tail). Step on the head and pull the skin over the shoulders, then pull the skin at the hips...

    Homemade Squirrel Skinning Stand

I prefer cleaning my squirrels in the field, shortly after having shot them. The hide comes off much easier on a warm squirrel than it does on one that has cooled down. My method takes only a few minutes, leaves little if any hair on the carcass (which is the devil to remove) and leaves me...

Squirrel hunting, trying to piece it all together..............

History records massive squirrel migrations in the 1800's. I read one account of the squirrels swimming across the Mississippi in such numbers that the water appeared to be boiling. I have never witnessed a squirrel migration in my area. As for the whining/crying sound you heard at night. I...
