    Muzzleloader Bull Elk, 2023.

Congrats on a great hunt! Good looking rifle too. It suits and serves you well.

    Swiss Powder Questions

I use Swiss 2F in my sidelocks and my White in-lines. I find it to be a great powder. I weigh my charges. I have used 3F Swiss in place of the 2F Swiss on several occasions to see if there was much difference. I really didn't see much difference in accuracy and point of impact using the same...

    Sidelock Bull Elk Harvest

It was my buddy who hunted Unit 76. He said he missed a 135 yd shot at a nice 6x6 the first hour of the first day of his hunt. He had a hang fire on another bull a few days later. He saw lots of nice bulls but could not get within open sights muzzleloader distance of them. He went home without...

    Sidelock Bull Elk Harvest

It clean ups nicely. Much quicker and easier than my blued sidelock barrels. It has a 1-28'' twist. Shoots heavy conicals really well. Have not tried, but should shoots sabots good as well.

    Sidelock Bull Elk Harvest

It rained all night and while we cut him up and hung the meat in a tree. Roads and trails were too slick and steep for the horses. Eight of us hiked back 2.5 miles from the road to pack him out. It was a labor of love.

    Sidelock Bull Elk Harvest

I killed my bull on the 5th day of the 9 day Colorado muzzleloader season. Walking a ridge overlooking a deep canyon we spotted 3 different bulls on the slopes across the other side. After glassing them for a while, we finally decided to slide down the hill on our butts to go after the biggest...

    Sidelock Bull Elk Harvest

Went to Colorado for an elk muzzleloader hunt last week. It was a great time. First elk I have taken with a muzzleloader.

Does anyone know what this rifle is?

There certainly is. I resemble that statement. I have several in my gun room that will be cleaned up and reconditioned once I retire and have time to work on them. One or two of them might even shootable.

Does anyone know what this rifle is?

Old and nasty is what it is.

    Open iron sights or peep.

I will remove my peep and use the ghost ring if there is still enough light. I have killed two deer that way in dark timber the last 10 minutes of light. I use a green fiber optic front sight.
  12. Hatchet Jack

    Open iron sights or peep.

As far as accuracy, I can double the distance by using a peep sight.

I believe you are incorrect. I believe the Hunter model has 2 wedges as well.

    Chasing T/C Threads

Interesting thread for sure. No pun intended. I bought a TC White Mountain Carbine off a guy a few years back. First thing I did was replace the nipple with a Treso Ampco 1/4-28 nipple. It is the same nipple I use for my Renegades. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary when changing the nipple...

    How old are ya?

Even in the States it sometimes hard to find someone to chat about sidelocks with. Dying breed, I guess.

    How old are ya?

61 years young. Started messing with smokers in the late seventies when disco left me cold and flat.
