    Conicals in smooth bore

I am embarrassed to say I tried a conical in a smoothbore and the experiment was an abject failure. I bought a mold from a member here off the forum for a conical, maybe a Ballard or something. It cast a beautiful slug that was a nice fit for the bore of my .56 smoothbore Renegade. Lubed...

What size Dutch oven or potjie to be the only cast iron in a solo camp?

I use a 10” cast iron Dutch oven in my camp. At our local rendezvous we have a couple of group feed nights and I need the larger size to cook for a crowd. It also fits my brassier well and is a good size for frying so saves carrying a fry pan. I am not a minimalist when it comes to extended...

Just added the little tent for my daughter to have a private sleeping area.

    My 12 ga shot load

Nice, maybe I will get my CVA SXS out someday. I did swap it over to Musket Nipples a while back. No real reason except I bought a thousand Musket caps back when caps first got scarce (glad I did too!)..

Temp rear sight for my NWTG

Temp rear sight for my NWTG

A guy that would think up a refrigerator magnet, wire and .22 case sight is a pretty clever hombres too. ; )

    Converting to musket caps?

I’ve changed both nipples on my old CVA SXS 12 bore and two TC rifles to musket nipples. All required bending the hammers for clearance. I bent them cold, carefully, as it was a trial and error process. I clamped the hammers in a large vice and tapped them with a BFH (big freaking hammer)...

Fadala Article on T-C .56 Cal Smoothbore?

I like mine and enjoy shooting it with various charges and payloads. It is a favorite to loan to new shooters as it is easy to load, accurate enough at short range distances, and the smooth bore is easy to clean and maintain. All that said, I would not pay what the current rate for one seems...

Lee “rifling engraved at loading” bullet

I have several REAL molds, probably all of them as a matter of fact. That said, I have not tried them all extensively but have had good results with the ones I did try to work up loads for. I suggest trying the felt wads (lubed and unlubed), tumble (alox) lube, and smearing your lube of choice...

#4 buck in the trade gun.

So antlerless Bucks are legal there? Looks like a lot of fun, I am pondering a tree rat hunt with a Trade Gun and shot. Late season they are not sitting still too much. I need a little hound to accompany me though.

New Uberti 1861 Navy from Midway. Buyer Beware!

I got a sorry Uberti 1851 from Midway a couple of years ago. No way it was Midway’s fault nor would I have expected them to know about the issue. With the wedge bottomed out the barrel still moved back and forth quite a bit. I contacted Benelli directly and they replaced it with a perfect...

    Knock-down camp table

I couldn’t seem to type anymore after posting the picture so continue here. I made new legs and hinged them with some flea market hinges. Works great and does not take up any more space folded, although I am back to heavier than I like. I saved the old legs and will use them with a new...

    Knock-down camp table

Well it turned out the knock-down table was a bit of a fail. I never figured out or implemented a satisfactory way to attach the top to the legs. Consequently it slid around with little encouragement. Not a big problem but certainly a constant aggravation. So, I present version 2.0.

Panther Primitive Tents is going out of business Need recommendation

I got my order in last month for a small "guest" tent and oilskin tarp to go with the Mini-Wall I got last year. At my age I probably won't need anything else but am sad to see a good merchant close. Hopefully somebody will take up the reins.

    Choosing a melting furnace.

I started with a Lee “dripper” pot and other that the dripping it was satisfactory. I quickly moved to a cast iron pot on a Turkey Fryer stand/burner and am a lot happier. When I cast, I CAST. I run my lead hot and run two molds so one can be cooling while I am running another one. Last year...

For those of us without oxy-acy torch or forge

I recently bought a single burner “Mr. Volcano” forge from Amazon and have been very happy with it. It took several days (mostly drying time) to complete the refractory lining but has been worth it. I have enjoyed playing with the little forge on some smallish Blacksmithing projects. I also...

10.38 oz vs 13 oz Sunforger?

I have no experience with 13 oz. But I do have a Panther tent in 10.38 and just ordered another one in 10.38 so I must be happy with it.
