    Ballistol

I'm in MT and we sell it in the store I work in and I can get it in any sporting goods store that sells muzzleloader supplies. I didn't realize it was that hard to find in other places.

    Did you draw? Colorado

Well my CO muzzleloader hunt was a bit slow. The only good clear day was opening day and after that it was raining, snowing, and extremely foggy. It really made for some tough conditions to hunt with a traditional gun. The bucks weren't out in the alpine country and had moved down into the...

    45 Cal. Small Game load

Well with fall rapidly approaching and grouse season starting in 2 weeks here in MT. I decided to put together a small game load just for grins. The gun in a custom built Kentucky style percussion in 45 caliber. The load I started with and ultimately settled on will be 35 grns. Of 3f Scheutzen...

    Accuracy Issues

I've shot it with and without the wads and I've shot it with lubed and dry and my rifle just prefers a lubed wad over powder.

    Accuracy Issues

No I didn't just took it down and cleaned it again and I switched to a .018 patch. I have been trying to maximize the range time and not shoot to much. I like to shoot my black powder guns and have a habit of taking 3 or 4 at a time and spending several hours. I changed that and just took the 54...

    Accuracy Issues

Got out for a quick shoot and just to verify everything in the 54 cal pedersoli Hawken. Shot 3 and figured I'd better put it away. My unmentionables would be hard pressed to match this. The stars must have all aligned I must have been living right because I don't think I can duplicate this. It...

    So..... why a muzzleloading?

For me it was fascination and love of the mountains. My mother told me I was born with an old soul. I was completely enthralled with the mountain men, how they lived, the freedom, and what they accomplished. As a young boy growing up in a super remote area of southern Colorado we lived in a...

    Powder Horn Help.........

I don't know a lot about the subject but I've taken interest in building one of my own. I'm curious if you could cut it back just a bit to get to thicker material and then install a threaded liner to accept your spout. Like I said I don't know much but it seems like it would work. Even if you...

    Rifle Questions

Well I didn't really have the time but I couldn't help myself. Here she is on the range as well as the first 3 shots at 50 yards. This rifle is a dandy and I'm mighty pleased to have it. .440 RB, 50 grns Scheutzen 3F, and .015 patch. I don't know how much it's been shot in its past life but it...

    Rifle Questions

Finally got some info on the rifle. It was built by Phillip Brock Ackerman (deceased) in the 1970's approximately. He owned Ackerman and Company out of Saratoga NY. It was part of a collection donated to the Montana Historical Society. It shows evidence of being fired some and was even hunted...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I got out and shot the 54 cal Hawken and dialed in my hunting load for the year. I also shot my 50 cal Mtn Rifle and feel really good about it as well definitely going to have to carry it some also. Lastly I picked up a new to me P. Brock Ackerman 45 call long rifle that I mentioned in another...

    Rifle Questions

Well for better or worse I now own the Brock Ackerman 45 cal percussion rifle. I still haven't been able to gather a lot of info but it's just to good to pass up.

    Accuracy Issues

Maybe! It's got about 150 or so rounds through it now it's still to tight to run a .535 ball and .018 patch. I didn't even shoot a conical bullet today and honestly probably won't to hunt this year. I shot the 50 cal Mtn Rifle today also and it was doing well probably 3.5" group at 100.
