My latest daydream: A Kibler escopeta ...

Being of Spanish decent, I heard the word escopeta growing up. To me it always meant shotgun but I found that it also means short musket. I guess any smoothbore is an escopeta.

    Contacted Kibler about Hawkins rifle.

I still hump a Shiloh Sharps around at my age (74), but my truck is parked about 200 yards away in the brush. :) My custom Hawken weighs 10 lbs.

Possible new option for a cap making tool!

Just ordered two. One for me and one for a friend that is not on this forum.

Welcome from Turnersville, TX, just a stone's throw from Ft. Hood. Just me and another friend shoot at my simple gun range. Not many folks around here shoot black powder.

Possible new option for a cap making tool!

I am in. We will probably have another shortage of caps in the future. The tool will probably pay for itself.

    Most 'Authentic' Hawken

I had John Bergmann build me a Hawken rifle 2 years ago. I did not want fancy wood since I hunt with my rifles and most of the period rifles were not fancy. It is a fine rifle and shoots straight. I will be carrying it again this deer season.

    Who can relate

Looks like my bench. I organize and clean up when it is time to do some reloading or build another Kibler. 😄

    Solved the percussion cap issue.

I would be interested in both #10 & #11. If you could make it so they could be used in a press, that would be great. I hate sitting there using a hammer. 😄

    .45 Caliber: Deer?

I built a .45 cal. TC Hawken in 1982 amd took a buck at about 50 yds. It is adequate for TX deer at reasonable distances. Work up your load and practice, practice, practice.

    Lyman Rifle Accuracy

Thank you so much for your comment about the rare 1" groups. I hunt with my Hawken style rifles and practice at 50 yds. My Bergmann shoots about 1" high at 50 yds and 4 " low at 100 yds with 85 grains of Shuetzen 2ff. I have a gong at 100 yds and practice shooting high from center and usually...

    Lyman Rifle Accuracy

I have two GPRs in .50 caliber. One in flintlock. With my old eyes even with cataract surgery, I keep my shots 75 yds or less. Both rifles get good results for hunting. My .54 custom Hawken with a Green Mountain barrel gives me 3 inch groups at 50 yds with 85 grains of 2f powder. The barrel...

    Muzzleloader No Longer On Newstands

I really like "Muzzleloader " magazine and like some on here don't fret about when it gets delivered as long as it keeps coming. I am also a hot rodder and aviation enthusiast. Two of my favorite magazines have gone away. Unfortunately, I had a 3 year subscriptions and got none of the...

    Drill Bits

Totally agree about Drill Doctor. I have one that is over 20 years old. I use it until I get frustrated with it then go to the grinder wheel. I can regrind an average size drill bit pretty quick. I get it right most of the time. I use the Drill Doctor on the smaller drill bits. Maybe I...

WANTED Do not to do business with kd8jgu. He will not pay you.

As a true Texan, I have made many handshake deals over the years in business and only got burned once by an oil man out of Houston. Luckily, it was not a big amount of money. Handshake deals don't mean what they used to mean now days. There is a lot of larceny out there. Hopefully the...
