    Kibler woodsrunner

They will interchange. I would suggest, stick with the .54 and drop the powder charge to 50 grs or so for target shooting.
  2. nchawkeye

    Considering a .40 caliber

.40 caliber is fine, drop down to 25-30grs powder and take head shots.

    Awfully quiet over at Kiblers.

I can't answer for Jim, but these came from England and they used walnut, not maple..

    Awfully quiet over at Kiblers.

Just ordered mine, 16 gauge, walnut... I have 3 longrifles in maple and almost ordered this one in maple but I realize the originals from England would have been in walnut. Thanks Jim!! This gives me 4 flintlocks, I have 5 grandchildren so I'll see what comes down the line next.. :)

What gun for early 1700's Virginia.

More than likely a fowler, imported from England.

    Why .40 cal?

A 3/8 ramrod will go down the barrel... I converted my .45 to a .40 when I built a .54..A .40 is great on squirrels when you drop down to 25-30grs of FFF powder and can be stoked up to say, 60grs FFF for larger game, deer inside 50 yards, coyotes, foxes, raccoons, etc... A .390 ball also bucks...

Remove brass sight before browning barrel.

No, I browned mine with both in, center, file ends of brass sight flush with barrel and brown...You may need to make a slight adjustment when sighting in but, that's how I prefer to do it..

    Screw too long

    File them down.
