    3F Shotgun Load

While my original Nock performed well with 66 grains of 3FG and 1 1/4 ounces of #6, I wanted to see if my Pedersoli Mortimer would perform as well. I was very gratified by the results. The fowler is cylinder bored and I was pleased to have dropped both birds at over 30 yards with this load...

    3F Shotgun Load

Thanks. How many grains of 3F do you typically shoot in you12 gauges with 1 1/8 ounces and 1 1/4 ounces of shot? I too only use thin overshot cards. 4 on top of the powder, 2 on top of the shot column for the first shot, and afterwards a single overshot card.

Thanks. Do you shoot a 12 gauge? What's your load?

"Less powder, more lead, shoots further, kills dead." What loads have you used? Thanks. I like to shoot photos almost as much as I like to shoot fowlers.

    3F Shotgun Load

I've always shot 2F in fowlers, but was curious to see how an original patent breech would perform with 3F. Not wanting to shoot hot loads in an 18th century fowler with a damascus twist barrel, I thought I'd try reducing my standard 3 dram 2FG load beneath an ounce of a quarter of #6 shot by...

    English Fowler ID

Wow! What a beautiful double! Who made it, and when was it made? Oddly enough, the length of pull on my Nock is 14". Either the original purchaser was around 6' tall, or he had unusually long arms for a shorter gentleman.

Thank you. It's a lot of fun hunting with an original 18th century fowler. It's very light, points wonderfully, and fires reliably. Now, if only I could find a nice original flint double that weighs less than 8 pounds.

    It's a 12 gauge

Thank you very much. I think your photos are very good. Beautiful fowler! I'm sure it points like a wand.

If possible, I'd like to see photo's of your Nock's engraving to see how it compares with mine.

I have a very nice Henry Nock fowler I took a ringneck with this afternoon. It's a beautiful light weight gun that handles well and fires reliably.

    Rifles and humidity

What's the source material for 1% firearms ownership during the mid 18th century? Does the source state firearms or rifles? At a time when colonies required all men 16 to 60 to perform militia service, 1% firearms ownership seems improbable.

    Vent Liner Location

Thank you all. I'm simply looking to install a liner in a gun with a worn out, direct drilled touch hole that is a hair's width away from the breechplug. Sounds like it's not an issue, if I drill through a portion of the breech plug to install the liner.

    Vent Liner Location

I'd like to install a vent liner in a flintlock, but am concerned the breech ply will interfere with it's installation. Will I have ignition issues if I nick the side of the breechplug? Would it create a dangerous condition if I drill into the breechplug? Thanks

Who sells Goex Blackpowder in the Lewisburg, Pa area

Thank you very much. Is North East in Muncy still open? No one answers the phone and their website indicates they closed for Covid

I have, but some of the dealers listed, don't actually stock the powder.

Thanks. Does Mike have a website? Do you have any pictures of his work? I currently have a deposit on a Tim Williams fowler and am awaiting completion, but can always use another one.

    Trap Gun

I only shoot a hundred clays a year now, but enjoy using the guns pictured below. The original Nock 13 gauge pictured on top is very light, with instant ignition and an unchoked Damascus barrel. The Mike Brooks fowler has a 12 gauge Getz barrel jug choked modified. The production Pedersoli...
