    Overshot Cards Only Loading Method

I'm a big fan of Dixon's. If you live in Pennsylvania, swing by and pick them up. I also like Track Of The Wolf. You can order on line and I think they offer good prices and excellent service. The cards are little white discs as shown in the photos.

    Overshot Cards Only Loading Method

Aye, laddie. I can spend a couple thousand on a shotgun and feel as though I've invested in something worthwhile, but if I think I've spent too much on wads I'm outraged. (Considering I use 3-6 times as many cards as someone loading the recommended 3 wad way, I'm probably spending more) So...

    Overshot Cards Only Loading Method

I've been using cards only for a long time. If I don't write my name in the palm of my hand, I'll forget it by lunchtime. By organizing stuff when I think of it, I'm less apt to forget it. That's why I like the pre-load tubes and a bag of overshot cards. I no longer have to remember to bring...

    Overshot Cards Only Loading Method

Well, we've got plenty of mountain laurel. I have seen so many bushes with blueish berries identified as huckleberry, that I'm not sure I know what huckleberry is. The land these pictures were taken on is a mix of abandoned fields and small woods. Great place to be in late summer. When I mow...

    Overshot Cards Only Loading Method

:rotf: I guess you didn't look at the picture links. I only put one hole in each card. Picture #5, gives the best depictions of the holes and how to locate them when loading.

    Smug Enfield Shooter!

Yes, in the N-SSA we have 200 yard competition at the nationals, and my club also sponsors 200 yard shooting. I've only been to one match in the past 30 years where any targets were posted beyond 200 years. We shot ram silhouettes at 300. We have very little opportunity to shoot prone. My club...

    How to carry shot?

I like pre-loaded cartridges. Shot fit's in one side, powder fit's in the other. Wear them in your hunting vest like shotgun shells. Carry your cards in a plastic bag. They are simple, convienient and quick, and you can wear 12-14 in a vest. Don't have to carry a lot of weight, and don't need to...

    Overshot Cards Only Loading Method

When I'm watching TV I will take a bag of cards and poke the holes in them. I have a wooden board that I put on my lap and just poke away. After I fill up a bag of wads, I stack them perhaps 1 1/2" thick between my fingers. I then roll them through a tin of mink oil, and still compressing the...

    Overshot Cards Only Loading Method

For some reason I can't seem to place more than one picture with text. That being the case, I should be able to just link the pictures to the text. I've always obtained best shotgun patterns using only overshot cards in lieu of overpowder, cushion, and overshot wads. Picture One shows how I...

    Shot size fer squrrils...?

Hey Paul, I got my Mike Brook's fowler this week, and made the time to do a little shooting with it. I hasten to add (alright brag) that the fowler is Mike's own gun. This was the man's personal fowler for many years and I feel like I just purchased Mozarts piano. I feel Mike is to muzzleloading...

    Guess she ain't new anymore..

A gun without scratches is like a man without scars. Don't trust 'em. They've led a sheltered a life and lack the experience to be reliable.

    Beeswax: Killer Bee Attractant?

Most times I'm stung I'm reaching for a cartridge and thus never see the bee... until after I'm stung. At that point I don't try and blow them off, but either swat them or crush them. I've never had the opportunity to exhale on a bee, and wouldn't have the inclination to do so if I could.

    Beeswax: Killer Bee Attractant?

I shoot throughout the northeast, and use a 3rd beeswax, 3rd wonderlube and 3rd SPG bullet lube. I'll shoot over 1,000 minies per season, and am stung a dozen times per summer. Beeswax does seem to attract bees. Skirmishes last several hours, thus perhaps if someone isn't bothered by bees, it...

    The state of muzzleloading today

I hunt pheasants with a flintlock fowler, buck with rifled musket, and doe with a revolver. In these parts we've got more deer than hunters. All that said, I suppose it's just not muzzleloading that's changed. I look at centerfire arms, and they are ugly by design.Traditional wood stocks are...

    2 Band Enfield Troubles

I would bed from the tang to 2" behind the spoon. I would bed the area two inches ahead of the rear band to 2" behind the front band, and to within 2" of the nosecap. The only reason I back off the bands and the nosecap is to prevent bonding the barrel to the stock, bonding the spoon in place...

    2 Band Enfield Troubles

I'd recommend losing the shims, and glass bedding the barrel the full length of the channel. I back off bedding 2" from the spoon and bands, as this will allow a very stable barrel channel, and should deliver consistent accuracy. Band tension is important, and I generally get best results with...

    2 Band Enfield Troubles

I would suggest glass bedding the barrel full length.Follow the instructions for applying the release agent explicitly, and you should have perfect results. The last skirmish I attended I shot a 47 offhand at 50 yards with a 30 year old glass bedded Parker Hale musketoon. If you do your part...

    2 Band Enfield Troubles

Jeez, Bub most of us in the N-SSA are very well rounded. I always thought that was because I drank too much ice tea between relays, but my wife's cooking may be a contributing factor. If you're suggesting we don't know as much about muzzleloading in general, I would disagree emphatically. Many...
