    Siler lock

My interest has changed and I want a flinter. So I will try to sell my small siler percussion lock and bolster and get a flintlock. I am sure mine is a Siler produced lock because I bought it in 1998. It has been stored in oil ever since.

    Siler lock

Many years ago I bought all the parts necessary to build a percussion Tennessee long rifle. Well part of these purchases was a Small Siler percussion lock. I am probably finally get going but I would rather child a fainter. Is the small siler flint dimensionly the the same as the percussion...

I preparation for the day I dry ball one

Well fellow "Future Dry Ballers" I got my zerk fittings from McMaster Carr in 303 stainless . Fit just right as expected . The threaded part of the body is a little longer than the Lyman nipple I am using but it should work. Now what else can I worry about!

    Crest butt plate fear

Regarding the group you shot my first groups from my new barrel for my 54 cal GPR looked about like that . At 50 yards I was expecting about a 2" group. I am at about 50 rounds now and the 10 shot groups tightened up to about 2" with 1 or 2 flyers . The flyers may be me cause I haven't been out...

I preparation for the day I dry ball one

Just an FYI I have a range rod that I think is steel that I got from TOW. Also my gun has only had about 50 rounds through it and I can load two shots without cleaning but I have had the ball stuck midway down the barrel once. I put a little CVA bore blaster down the barrel and let it soak for...

I preparation for the day I dry ball one

Just so you know I would probably try the powder thing first but since I never have any luck I figured I would be prepared . I also figured anything with 6mmx.75 treads would probably not be readily available at the auto parts store on Sunday morning ( the worst time of the week cause that is...

I preparation for the day I dry ball one

Well I was thinking about how I was gonna get a ball out of my GPR if I ever "dry Ball" one and I did a search on this site. I did this cause I am a "Be Prepared" kind of guy. So after an hour of reading I ordered a few 6mmx.75 zerk fittings because I have decided to go with grease gun method. I...

    Percussion rifle cleaning info please

I was intimidated too. I can only say that Pyrodex was a %$tch to clean and BP COMES right out . That alone is worth the drive.

    Percussion rifle cleaning info please

I would try to get Black Powder. The substitutes are more corrosive and more difficult to clean. I use soap and water but I have used CVA's solvent and both work in my Lyman GPR just fine. I was in your shoes a couple of years ago and just went out and tried some different techniques I had...

    Lyman GPR change in supplier

I really started this Thread because I have a GPR 54 that I enjoy and it was the most reasonable gun that looked like what it was supposed to be that I could afford at the time I bought it. I am just hoping that LYMAN maintains product line so new guys can get into the hobby and afford it. Also...

    Lyman GPR change in supplier

I read here a couple of months ago that Lyman was going to stop using Investarms to manufacture the GPR . I was wondering if there is any news on this because I would like to get a GPR Flinter Kit when they become available. My current GPR percussion gun is very reliable but I am going to do a...

    Wipe Out for Cleaning

Fellow "Front Stuffers" I went shootin a couple of weeks ago and when I got through I decided to try foaming "Wipe Out" ( the standard formula not the black powder formula) to clean the trusty LYMAN GPR . Well as I understand it this is a citrus based cleaner . This is the best thing I have used...

    Lyman GPR Flint - Quality?

I have a Percussion GPR that is 3 years old that I have only shot a few times. This gun is functional and shoots OK . It probably isn't broken in yet and seems to do a little better every outing . So either I am getting better or the barrel is wearing in as it should. Well I have the urge to...

    Range Rods

I have a Lyman GPR. TOW has two lengths of range rod 44" and 36". I also have a Tenn. Long Rifle Kit/parts with a 42" barrel. Although the 44 is a little long for the GPR I was going to go with that . Anybody have any thoughts

GPR as good as they used to be?

All this talk got me wound up to shoot. This is only the second time out for my GPR 54 and the first time I tried some different powder charges . Started at 90 grs of Graff FFFg ,TC pre-lubed patches .015", Speer .535 balls , CVA Hot-Flash caps (which I believe are CCI - I bought 500 of these at...

GPR as good as they used to be?

I bought one of the factory built percussion GPR's from Mid-south Shooters Supply 3 years ago. It was one of the ones involved in the barrel recall. Mechanically , it is a good gun and shoots well. Cosmetically , it is not near as nice as older guns I saw prior to buying this one . However it...
