Here's my solution to a similar issue with an original that I didn't want to permanently modify. It's a simple copper pipe clamp with an aluminum blade jb-welded, and offset to clear the ramrod. Works great.
I dont know about a standard, but I like to use the historical Figure of Merit to compare loads and measure my performance. Rob @ britishmuzzleloaders.com has a spreadsheet calculator for this, and I think it's also linked on research press uk.
I don't hunt. At the 100 yd range, trying to put a black hole in a black circle using black sights just doesn't work for me. This is a diy high contrast target I make. It's the same dimensions as the std NRA 100 yd rifle. I adjust my load to zero using a 6 o'clock hold.
