That stock is crazy, congratulations. Probably Never see one like that again.

    CLOSED Hornet's nest give-a-way

What’s it used for? Dumb question I know.

Finally Tried Paper Cartridges in smoothbore......

That would solve the danger, but you are slower now. -Go to the pan and prime (say cover is on already and the gun is unloaded at the start of battle, hunting, etc. Maybe it was for battlefield situations, but I doubt it, and a hunter with an unloaded rifle is going to go hungry). -Go to the...

Finally Tried Paper Cartridges in smoothbore......

Historically I understand priming the pan first. And using the rest of the charge in the bore, but realistically it kinda makes me cringe. True, a good lock, well maintained shouldn’t slip, but my luck being what it is. Lol.

    Building a Fusil de Chasse

It looks amazing. So cool to watch it from start to finish, you make it look quick and easy. I assume this gun is commissioned, and has a home waiting for it, lucky dog. Can’t wait to see it shoot.

    Kibler's next gun?

If the “dreaded” Hawken is close to the actual Hawken designs, then I would definitely be in. All the other ideas sound good to me too, pistols, Lehigh, sounds good to me.

Building short N.W. Trade Gun ...

That stock is going to have done definite character when your done, could look sweet. I’d give it some age, little bit of patina on the brass, darken the stock, and you’ll have a nice piece. At least you’ll be able to pick that gun out of a line up.

    My finished Kibler SMR

That’s what my thought is too. If I screw it up too bad I can make it square across.

That came out nice. Love the toe plate, I’ve been thinking about adding one to mine, I like the shape.

    Nitric Acid Stain

so, a small update on the experiment. I’ve stained the same wood 5 more times. In order, after the two original sections, I have -Nitric/water but topped off with mineral oil then beeswax. - the next two dark stains represent one with degreased steel wool, which is a relatively clear but...

    New member from Cali

Hey, we can still buy muzzle loaders over the counter here in California, but 20 day waiting period for cartridge guns. And that is a bit limited depending on what the California government has decided we are able to buy. Of course, we still can buy semi-auto rifles, shotguns, pistols, etc...

    Nitric Acid Stain

Comfortably numb, that’s a shame. Waste of good wood.

    Nitric Acid Stain

Here is the first test. Nitric/water, the right section is two coats, fully dried and blushed in between, the left is one coat and covered in beeswax. Not the best finish, but I had some on hand and it was quick to give me an idea. I don’t have any finish yet, probably going with tried and...

    Nitric Acid Stain

I have not tried any of it on wood so far, but will take pictures and post them here when I do. I’m going to clean up and sand some curly maple and test it out after I let the stuff brew for a week or two.

    Nitric Acid Stain

I am in the process of making my own stain for curly maple using nitric acid and distilled water in a 5/1 solution. Going to split it up and try adding iron from different sources and see how it work out. My intention is to have one batch with wrought Iron added, another with some 1095 steel I...
