Seeking Opinions on a Recent Kibler SMR Purchase Experience

I’m certainly grateful for the refund— just not the manner or circumstances in which it was given. You’d have to be a real scumbag to refuse a refund after neglecting to disclose issues with the item you’re selling, right? I didn’t want to name this individual for fear of the fallout that might...

Seeking Opinions on a Recent Kibler SMR Purchase Experience

Thanks, Reds. A Kibler kit is definitely in my future. I’ve had a little experience browning and torch-bluing hardware as well as refinishing stocks and have been reasonably happy with the results. It’s difficult as a husband and father of four young kids to find the time to commit to a project...

Seeking Opinions on a Recent Kibler SMR Purchase Experience

This builder frequently uses techniques to try and emulate an antiqued/distressed finish. It’s apparently all the rage these days! The seller actually reached out to me regarding the sale of this rifle— I didn’t go looking for it. I suppose I ought to learn some patience and not jump on the...

SOLD 6” Ruggles Patent Underhammer by R. Olsen

I would imagine that these pistols were intended for self defense, although they’re not especially practical for that purpose. There’s no half-cock notch, so one’s relegated to carrying it uncapped or with the hammer down on a cap (not recommended). Fordyce Ruggles was actually shot and killed...

SOLD 6” Ruggles Patent Underhammer by R. Olsen

Yes. It’s very similar to the Pedersoli .38’s in that regard. I’d probably use a .005 or .010 patch. Of course, you could always resort to using a smaller ball and thicker patch combo. The perfect little companion piece for someone who already owns a .36 revolver.

Would never have expected the thread to go in that direction… thank you for that fascinating derailment. 😏

Seeking Opinions on a Recent Kibler SMR Purchase Experience

I’ve got to say… I’m beginning to feel a little vindicated here. I’ve been through a whole gamut of emotions: from kicking myself for driving the seller to withdraw the sale, to elation at having “dodged a bullet”, as some of you have alluded to… from feeling as though I ought to apologize to...

Seeking Opinions on a Recent Kibler SMR Purchase Experience

Thanks for your input. I’m typically pretty cautious, but when I was told that it was “nothing to worry about” by someone with 40+ years of building experience, I figured “Who am I to question him?” I ended up purchasing another .40 SMR from the user “olskool” for not too much more, and I...

Funnily enough, the seller was adamant that it wasn’t a crack. He seemed quite offended when I referred to it as such. He asserted that it was a 1/32” sliver of missing wood.

That’s good advice, and I intend to, Phil. Just a little taken aback, is all… I’ve purchased two other rifles from this same individual this year, and he seems to be generally well-regarded within the community.

Seeking Opinions on a Recent Kibler SMR Purchase Experience

Hey everyone, I recently purchased a Kibler SMR from a well-known builder here on the forum, and I wanted to share my experience to get some input from the community. Shortly after transferring funds to the seller, I received a message saying, “I neglected to give you full disclosure here but...

New Dick Miller Rifle, Sighting In

You know, I seem to recall using the 13 yard method with my .45 Woodsrunner several months ago and achieving satisfactory results. I shot just a couple days after sighting in with some 50 other people at the Fawn Creek rendezvous in Montana and was somewhere in the top five in the rifle category.

A reproduction of Adin Ruggles' 1830s era percussion underhammer pistol. This light weight pistol features a walnut grip with brass frame, .38 caliber rifled 6” octagon-to-round barrel. The oiled walnut grip has a 5/8" wide sheet brass frame attached with tiny brass nails. The blued...

SOLD Horace Dimick Style .50 Cal Half-stock Rifle

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news for those of you hoping to have a second shot at this guy, but funds were received this morning. It is sold! Don’t fret though… there are plenty of gorgeous guns out there in the wild, and I’m sure you’ll eventually nab yours!

SOLD Horace Dimick Style .50 Cal Half-stock Rifle

While it’s important to note that ergonomics are largely dependent on one’s anatomy, I find the hook works well to place my middle finger over and assist in pulling the gun into my shoulder; however, one doesn’t have to use it in this manner. You can reach the trigger just fine by placing your...
