    Forgot to include the required security info. The walnut starter is still available as are any that you might want made up. Have maple, ash, hickory, cherry, oak plus 1/4”, 5/16”, 3/8”, and 1/2” brass for rods. If interested PM me soon as I most likely will not be making them this winter...

    Yes, I use a 1/4” brass rod (.25”). Here is one in cherry, but I can make one of other wood. The 1/4” one next to the 3/8” walnut I have listed above.

    I have made a lot of these. They seem to have a historical presence in the early 1800s. This one is walnut with a 3/8” (.375”) brass rod which has been drilled and tapped 10-32. I will ship to you for $18.50.

    We are a primitive, flint only group that have been active since 1978. We have 4 seasonal shoots (spring, summer, etc.) on private land. We were a larger group but over time numbers have decreased. If interested in flint shooting, rifle, smooth, pistol let me know.

    Ball starter options

    They are. Flat topped so you can “slap” with any part of your hand. Plus with the concave ball area at the end of the brass rod, it stable and not likely to slip off the ball. Also by being drilled and tapped (if so desired), jags of various sizes make the starter very versatile.

    And then there is this guy (me) who is making a short starter based on some first hand documentation of one illustrated in an early 19th century manuscript. Very comfortable in their intended purpose and can be utilized in multiple bore sizes.
