Need help with 1858 Enfield clone.

I had a similar issue with a Miroku 1863 Springfield - the bore measures .5835. I got lucky and found a Rapine 583-455 “International Style” Minié ball mold that casts a .583 ball. It works well sized to .581. I could be talked into casting a few for you to try out but finding another Rapine...

More Things in Film That Bug Me

I've never been in combat (the military wouldn't take me when I volunteered - go figure) and I've never seen anyone shot. I grew up with all the great WW2 movies but even as a kid I wondered how people really react when they're shot. Spinning, flying, jumping, throwing their arms in the air...

    Progressive depth rifling questions

Ah-ha. I think I understand now. However, I'm not skilled or confident enough to remove the breech on any rifle. Otherwise it seems like an easy way to measure, though. Thanks!

    Progressive depth rifling questions

With respect, I don't believe that's correct. My understanding is that the land-to-land distance is constant and only the depth of the grooves changes, from something like .015 at the breech to .005 at the bore. So a pin gauge wouldn't establish that - right? (I've not used pin gauges so I'm...

    Progressive depth rifling questions

I have collected for shooting a number of ACW period reproduction muskets, mostly Enfields and Springfields. I have Parker Hale Birmingham Enfields, Miroku Springfields, and Italian representations of a handful of other muzzleloading musket types. I understand that no Italian manufacturer has...

    Gunbroker Unscrupulous Sellers

I have seen some ridiculous asking prices on Gunbroker but so far I have not noticed anything I would call fraudulent. (Compare that to eBay!!) I have made perhaps a dozen or more purchases through GB and I have had only one marginal experience. The gun was nowhere close to the great condition...

SOLD .44 Armi San Marco Walker

Thanks for your honest reply! (You could have said that they magically make the gun more accurate - or something. :))

SOLD .44 Armi San Marco Walker

@SolidLeadSlug - what are the six short divots in the face of the cylinder that sort of spiral away from the center? (Sorry, I’m tired it’s late and I can’t think how else to describe them.) I’ve never seen that done before. Are those from the factory or some custom alteration, and either way...

    DAISY PATCHES FROM OCTOBER COUNTRY

I don’t shoot PRB much preferring ACW period firearms and Minié balls. But when I do shoot my Hawken clone or Mowrey Allen & Thurber I use these patches. They have served me well enough that I see no reason to use anything else.

    Starr By Pietta

My SA shoots well enough but the DA is very different. I fired each a coupe of times then went back to my Colts. The reach to the hammer on the SA for my thumb is very long and uncomfortable. I am also concerned about parts availability. Starr did have a proprietary conical. I have two original...

    Rapine Trash Can availability?

@Cubreac, you are very welcome. I will cast some anyway for my own use and I can let you know how they perform. I have a Parker Hale musketoon but I’m more likely to shoot them in a a Parker Hale 1853. You can PM me if you eventually want to try them out. I also have three or four Minié molds to...

    Rapine Trash Can availability?

@Cubreac: I have a Rapine 577-470 trashcan mold that I acquired in a trade of sorts. I’ve never used it because I also prefer to shoot historically correct Minié or Burton balls. (Are trashcan style bullets historically correct? I never thought so but I truly don’t know for sure.) if you are...

Frustrated - Hopefully just the growing pains of a newbie

From the for-what-it’s-worth department…I’ve had very little coaching except lots of videos and trial and error. The only time I’ve got patches stuck is when I’ve been at the range and just wanted to swab the bore between shots. I quickly learned to use a very thin and/or very small patch with...

    Browning harmonica rifle

I briefly visited the church history museum of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Salt Lake City this week and took a photo of one of the more unusual firearms I’ve seen. It’s a five shot sliding magazine “harmonica” rifle manufactured by Jonathan Browning in the 1840s. I forgot...

Incidentally you did well just getting the Colt case. I had the most difficulty finding one of those!

I’m not trying to take advantage of your post but I can probably help you with everything you need. I will only ask for prices to recover what I’ve paid. Send me a PM if you’re interested.
