What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Finished my first throwing knife and sheath. Happy with how it all turned out. Now the practice starts.

    Polishing a chambered breech

Has anyone done this to help with fouling build up? If so, how would you go about doing it if you couldn't remove the breech plug from the barrel? The chamber on my rifle is a touch smaller than .30 caliber. I thought if using a .17 cal jag with a bit of scotch bright but was worried I might...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Finished up a trial throwing knife from plain mild steel. I wanted to make one to see if the balance, handle size and everything felt good. I'm happy with how it turned out and will probably eventually make one with a better quality steel. But for now, this will do.

Throwing Knife Steel type and thickness

I'm currently in the beginng stages of making my own throwing knife for my home range but would also like to be able to use it at events. Is there any reason to use good carbon steel or would a scrap piece work plenty well? Also, what thickness would be good for an 8" blade and 12 1/2" overall...

    Strap bag vs belt bag?

Which do you prefer for deer hunting from a stand? I am in no way hunting period correct clothing. I'm leaning towards a straped bag so it's easy to put on and take off with my backpack but wanted other people's thoughts.

Where to get flint for fire starting?

Where is a good place to get flints for fire stsrting? We don't have much flint or chert where I live. I found some online for $22 for 11 pounds of big pieces of flint i would have to knap down. Or $23 for 5 pounds of smaller flint pieces already broken down. Are there other places i could find...

I like this idea. Will be making one to hang on me basement wall for practice.

    Offhand Accuracy

What are some techniques you all use to increase your offhand accuracy that can be done without shooting? My rifle is balanced about 1/3 of the way up the barrel so if I tuck my arm in tight into my chest, it is front heavy and I'm not as accurate as when I hold it on the balance point. I've...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I do agree about the phillips heads but it's all I could find for the thread size at the present moment. I'm keeping an eye out for some with just a flat head. Before, they were small counter sunk into the lock plate and I didn't really like the look. This was kindof a trial run for the...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Spent the evening cutting 2 new screws to length and blueing them for my lock. Also made a couple bore guides for my range rod from 1/2" pex pipe unions. The center hole was a perfect fit for the range rod and woth I little sanding, the outside fits my .45 cal rifle perfectly.

    How often to disassemble lock?

How often should a lock be disassembled and cleaned? Currently, I only have time to shoot mine maybe once a month. After each shooting session I remove my lock and scrub it woth soapy water, then moose milk, then I will lube it with ballistol before reinstalling it. Since I don't know when my...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

A family friend is a shooter on the Kentucky Corps of Longrifles. We are planning on doing a camping trip with my parents next year to Ft Boonesboro the same weekend as the shoot. Wanted to this year but my wife is 8 1/2 months pregnant so that probably would have been a bad idea. 😄

Flintlock or percussion for a first purchase?

I started hunting with inlines then got a flintlock for target shooting. I would have to say that it was a steep learning curve for me with my flintlock but it is also an older jukar rifle so it has a cheap lock. I will say though, it was very satisfying when I finally figured it out the rifle...

    Where To Find BP Supplies

I'm in the same boat as fsr as shops go. Walmart is my best option for caps. As far as powder, I'm lucky enough to live within driving distance of Friendship so I make sure to stock up when the national shoots are going on. For everything else, I order from online shops like Track of the Wolf...

Black Powder Groups In Northern Kentucky?

I am from California, Kentucky and was wondering of there were any groups within a 30 to 45 min drive that get together to shoot? Friendship is a 90 min drive so that would be too much for say a monthly shoot for me with my schedule.

Customizing the Traditions Kentucky rifle kit

How deep were you able to make the recess in the stock for the patch box on the flintlock?
