wisdom vs. experience... or, today I learned...

"The difference between wisdom and experience is that with experience, you learn from your mistakes. With wisdom, you learn from the mistakes of others." So... I've been doing an experiment. Since I have a princely $120 invested in my .54 rifle and since I've shot it with nothing but real...

    concussion from BP revolvers

Umm... No. My 1858 w/ a 30ish gr charge of 3Fg and a .451 roundball has no more of an report than a 38 special out of a modern revolver. Won't even bother mentioning 357, 44 mag, 30 carbine in a Blackhawk, etc. Only way a gun could blow out the lamp would be with direct muzzle blast blowing...

Field/Farm Use of Cap & Ball Revolver

If I were to be carrying in the field, I'd carry my CZ75. If I actually thought I'd really need to use a gun, I'd carry one of my ARs or my FAL ... and bring a few buddies totin' theirs. BP and muzzle loaders are fun. But they haven't been the best tool for the job since the late 1800s...

.452 RNL bullet in 1858 Remington?

Check my thread on airgun pellets - the ones I found the manufacturer claims a BH of 7-9 IIRC

    No Such Rifle !

The only changes I would make would be a flat butt (HATE any hint of a curve/point, but that is a personal thing) and I would've done it percussion (again, just me, I realize percussion didn't exist late 1700s). But that is some truly fine work there!

    The .50 Caliber Rifle

The only reason I have a .54 is because that is what the $120 deal I got is barreled for. If I had been intentionally muzzleloader shopping I would've gotten a .50 - if only because it is *the* caliber for big box stores, and even for the ML specific online retailers there is simply a much...

.452 RNL bullet in 1858 Remington?

Usually the shipper is the one who has to claim any insurance on a package.... so in this case, vendor should've refunded or re-shipped and gotten back from UPS (or however it was shipped) insurance.

    Round Balls

Warning about midsouth - they'll make ya spend money and then surprise you with fast excellent service and no BS. Oh, and they don't sell your email or send you spam and such. They are on my shortlist of "great vendors to do business with".

My handgun showed up today...awaiting the next

My local outdoor range has no special rules for BP. I asked forever ago (back in the mid 80s) about using BP for Skeet/Trap at the local club, was told it was OK but should be with myself or other understanding shooters just because of increase in time between shots/stations while loading.

    airgun pellets for MLs?

Regular BBs like for a Red Ryder? No, they are steel/harder iron and copper washed/plated, way too hard for what you want. If you need no-lead shot, grafs has it for what appears to be cheap ($2/lb)

    measuring out powder 11/28/2008 post

That is the thing about muzzleloders that I both like/get a giggle out of and at the same time hate. First, since it is volume we are all about we should be discussing CCs or MLs and not grains. But that is the part that I hate. What I like and get a giggle out of is ... so what if your "50...
