    Dangerous Situation

I guess that I am kinda impressed with the level of abuse a CVA rifle will take without blowing up. I triple charged (as near as I could tell) a CVA pistol once... single shot muzzleloader. I loaded it without a measure "by eye". Yes, sometimes I do stupid things. In any case, the gun fired...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

A man with a youngster stopped by today to drop an old couch off on the "go to the dump" pile. I gather he was a resident of one of the landlord's other houses in the area. Anyway, I was in the back yard teaching certain birds that the holes in the eves of my house were not invitations to...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Took my T/C Renegade out to shoot a plastic bottle out in the snow. Yes, I typed snow. Hooray, hooray, the first of May! Outdoor shooting starts today! Yes, there is a slightly more adolescent version I have heard once or twice ;) In any case, here is the link: 50 grains of 3f BP, lubed...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Ordered some .56 caliber supplies from TOW for my newish-to-me T/C Renegade smooth bore barrel. Just too many turkeys out there in the woods! Now, if I could just get within 25 yards or so....

Had to let her go 😢

If you love something, let it go. If it returns to you cherish it forever. If it does not, it was never meant to be yours. That said, if somebody offers more than it is worth, it means he owns it! Think Skeeter Skelton wrote that somewhere.

What kind of stuff do you all read?

Once upon a time I would have chuckled at that notion, but that was long ago.

    I don't know what I don't know ..do you?

Well, there is more that you don't know, about generally any subject, than that you do. You can learn all you want... books are a good start, but it will always end up that even when you are old and grey, there will still be more to learn than you have already learned.

What kind of stuff do you all read?

Years ago I had a neighbor who was a Japanese citizen. He decided to buy a gun and was amazed at how easy it was to get one. Just a background check, pay for it and out the door. Would maybe like to visit Japan some day... but I don't think I would want to live there. Wonder where the Yakuza...

What kind of stuff do you all read?

Most of what I know about Japanese history comes from K-dramas and Mushi Master (which is actually quite interesting). Did they have guns in the Meiji era?

What kind of stuff do you all read?

Quite a lot of stuff, actually. Take a look here for a glimpse of my library: DaleAllenRaby library | TinyCat

    Muzzleloader Storage

Old wall locker. You might have to remove the top shelf. Self-adhesive foam rubber gun rack's work well. I generally keep mine on hooks and they are hung horizontally.

    First post, maybe some advice?

Long poke with any rifle. Why are you shooting at an acetylene tank? Trying to blow another dam?😁😁

    Red pan after a shot

I'm in the sulfur camp. Iron oxide doesn't turn black unless you heat it up. I've never seen this though.

Things said that make me want to shoot alone

Many years ago when I was in what was then called West Germany, a young lady, SP4 Rhonda Ladd, from Oklahoma, told me that "Advice is most appreciated when it is asked for." Haven't heard from her since about 1977, but Specialist Ladd was a pretty smart girl. She'd be in her mid to late...

What did I do to get kicked off?

Best to just consider it "technobabble", which, as any Star Trek aficionado will tell you, is mostly bovine manure anyway. In any case, the latest technical advances in both hardware and software are so far beyond me these days, that, like you, I cannot see the bottom either.

    How does this look

When doing the finish myself, I prefer oils in general, boiled linseed oil in particular. Polyurethane is a superior finish it you want to protect the wood, so I don't usually strip it.

.56 Smoothbore Shot Patterning and Bare Ball

Just recently acquired one of these. I experienced the same result with a patched .550 round ball. Much better results so far with a .54 felt wad over a 50 grain charge of 3f BP and either another felt wad or a wad of Excelsior/tow over the ball. The bore diameter is actually .550, so there...

    Wander Notes II

Apparently I cannot add another entry to my original thread, but I can start another one. Go figure. In any case, I am going to TRY to put something of a presentation here. Hopefully it will work. This wander is documented with pictures. The file was originally a presentation file in .odp...
