What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Shot a cup of iced coffee from McDonald's that had sugar in it that wasn't supposed to be there. Sploded nicely.

What did I do to get kicked off?

I have an antenna atop the silo connected to a radio that relays to a wireless waypoint attached to the side of the barn that relays to a WiFi repeater inside the house that connects to anything wireless in the house and also provides a wired connection for my antique computers. I don't run...

    Chain fire!!

Long ago when I was shooting .451 round balls in a C&B Revolver, I did have some balls back out far enough to jam the action. I learned from the experience, read the manual and bought some .454 balls. Haven't had a problem since then.

    Goex (again 😀 )

It's well-known that I do not like Pyrodex. It works, sort of, but not very well in most of my guns... especially when cold/damp. T7 has it's uses as well, but mostly in guns that are difficult to clean... like in-lines and especially revolvers. I am going to try Swiss for the first time...

    Goex (again 😀 )

I waited and waited for Old Eynsford to come back on the market. In the end, with three pounds left on the shelf and no more in sight, I ordered ten pounds of 3f Swiss from Graf's when it showed up on their website. Most likely it will last me the rest of my life unless I get to do much more...

    Bum shoulder, help me

I've heard the ginger root idea regarding joint pain. I could never stand the stuff though.

    Ratio unmentionables to BP firearms?

Pretty close to 50/50. Not sure what category to put the single in-line muzzleloader into. Most of my cartridge guns are handguns and most of those are at least approaching a century in age. Most of the muzzleloaders are rifles. I don't often shoot the cartridge guns these days.

    Bum shoulder, help me

Does your .45 have a traditional crescent butt plate or a recoil pad?

    Bum shoulder, help me

How is the right shoulder? Are you right or left handed? Right handed people shoulder the gun mostly using their left hand for the lifting part. If you can somehow do the lifting with your right hand, and then maybe use shooting sticks to support most of the weight of the gun, you might be...

    Try this for ramrod.

Some while back I saw a muzzleloader with an absolutely gorgeous stock. I was a bit confused as a CVA normally did not come with such fancy wood. Got my magnifying glass out and looked at it more closely. Under 10x magnification the halftone screen could be clearly seen; the surface of the...

    Drams to Grains?

Now y' done it! I suddenly have an urge to acquire a set of deer antler powder measures calibrated in drams. Next buck I shoot will not have his antlers hung on the side of the barn.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Today ended up with a stuck ball with a charge under it. Didn't clean guns last night. Took it to the shed and used brass hammer to seat the ball. Worked. Took frustrations out on aluminum soda can. Now gonna clean guns.

    TC Renegade 50 cal

If I had that combo, I wouldn't sell unless somebody offered a ridiculous price.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Actually, that was a heavy cream carton. Very dangerous those! Two reasons I kept looking at the carton; the misfire could have become a hangfire without any warning so you keep the gun pointed down range for a while, and I was also looking to see if maybe I had nicked it and it was slowly...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Yup... getting a stock weld would definitely be an issue! :) Then it's a matter of practice. Guns like that were point shooters and you can get pretty good with one if you shoot it enough. One of the guns I am thinking about is a Queen Anne pistol, and as it would be more affordable than the...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

It is probably stock weld. Your eye is the rear sight, so if you do not shoulder that gun exactly the same every time, you are altering your sights. I've seen people point-shoot revolvers with incredible accuracy, but it takes long hours of practice. Years ago when I was young and stupid...

    muzzleloader cal .22 possible?

Umm... beg to differ. Anybody who invented anything pretty much had a whole bunch of folks who came before to ask questions of. In the case of David Bushnell, who built the Turtle, he consulted with Benjamin Franklin among others at Yale, his college. Orville and Wilbur Wright are credited...
