    Felt Wads Over Bullet

Then fill (or overfill) the hollow base with soft lube to help expand it out and assist in softening fouling.

    Conicals in smooth bore

I've tried 'em...they fly every which way from point-of-aim. Bare & unpatched round balls were much more accurate from my 2 smoothbores; patched ball was even better! You could try two RBs if you wish to experiment with heavy loads. :ghostly:

My 10ga trap gun 32in barrel.

Interesting! Looks like a newer version of a mule-eared percussion sidelock, paired with a raised vent rib. Bet its fast ignition! Keep us posted on how she performs.

Hello all Looking for help ID ing a flintlock

Since it IS a model 76...could its purpose have been to be a presentation piece in celebration of the USA Bi-Centenniel back in 1976?

Hello all Looking for help ID ing a flintlock

Another possible lead might be a pre 1986 creation from a different location, when Silver Dollar City in Pigeon Forge,Tennessee became Dollywood. That particular 'Silver Dollar City' location also made souvenier firearms, but its been a too long since then for me to recall much detail.

Kibler Fowler bounced around through usps

I have good friends that work at UPS and FedEx. Both of them have told of the 'games' that are played with packages, especially those labelled 'Fragile' or 'Breakable'. Seems those are key words to initiate a toughness test of the packaging. If it shatters or otherwise exhibits damage, the...

Does one need to apply oil or ballistol INSIDE the lock?

The correct choice here is "Both." Polish AND Lubricate !!

Oh MY - I believe that "TREAT" is merely an England-English type of expression indicting desireablity or goodness.

Use of fine shot in colonial America

Some northern tribes made a sieve by piercing birch bark, then pouring molten lead thru that into water. The result was some fairly decent small shot. Pretty simple yet ingenious device that saved the labor of cutting lead strips, although that was no doubt used as well.

    COMPRESSED AIR

Hmmm, not really... I would only need an air compressor in the event of loading a DryBall. At the range, that would be inpractical, to say notheing of the safety concerns with the flying ball. If the touch hold is too fouled up I would just break out a pipe cleaner to remedy that.

From the green color, it might be inlaid Jade. Anyone else have suggestions?

Shotgunning with a muzzleloader took a religious turn

Well, as a Catholic, I can say a couple of things about those 'wafers'. First. they would have to be consecrated in a church mass service to serve as the Host to the Body of Christ. If that was the case they would be immediately consumed by the many faithful communicants, with any remaining...

    Curious Matchlock

Sacrosanct is not so far off. I often shudder at the removal of fossils and ancient artifacts to faraway places, deconstruction of the Coliseum for construction materiel. etc. We really cannot just own these antique firearms, but function long term as concerned caretakers until the next...

Ah yes, but when you hit upon that magical load formula, how sweet it is!

1763 Heavy Model Charleville Barrel Comparison to a 1766

Love your concept and the side-by-side pics. It would be nice if you could add side-by-side measurements to compare the new '63 barrel to the 1766 one. Thanks :thumb:

PRB thru a mod choke ???

I trimmed the petals of the wad down pretty short, then loaded. Also used a 490 ball for faster loading, though it didn't have the good grouping of the 570. The .570 diameter ball didn't need sizing, it rolled right thru the choked portion of my 20 GA. (with a clean bore)

PRB thru a mod choke ???

    I used to have a 20 GA Imp/Mod choke that could do a 3 1/2" group at 50 yards from a bench firing 70 grains 2F black with a bare .570 ball with a one-piece plastic Fedral wad/cup

TC 56 caliber, why 56? why not something smaller?

I still have a .58 rifle from InvestArms, and it's only 15/16" across flats.
