I had the exact same idea to do with my Cherokee. I have a .32 cal, but picked up a .45 cal barrel that was shot out a while back. Figured I'd have someone bore it out to just clean the rifling for a smooth bore and make my own wad and such. I think you would end up with about a 35 gauge barrel...
