I’ve finished reading his book; he was truly an artist.

Finished Powder Horn for Master EOD Tech

I just wanted to share my latest project. It’s been a fun one with my mentor. I think he may actually make a Horner out of me one day. Thanks for looking.

    George Van Driessche Horn

I was fortunate enough to pick up this George Van Driessche powder horn from an estate sale. Thank you, Rifleman 1776 for identifying the maker. I’ve been able to research him and have really been intrigued by his work. I’m on the search for a companion or two for this horn.

Yessir, it’s been cut, shaped/straightened, rounded, scrimshawed and dyed.

    My Night Themed Rum Horn

I made him a couple of powder horns and he kept after me about two rum horns which I kept putting off because I wanted to become more skilled. I regret that now.

    My Night Themed Rum Horn

He was talking ugly to me for a few nights there! That moon evolved far from my original thought and sketches; I’m going to refine it a bit and add a tear drop on the next one in honor of my recently deceased cousin.

    My Night Themed Rum Horn

I’m going to try a wood sealer designed for bowl turners on this one; I have used beeswax on my last two rum horns and on a drinking horn.

    My Night Themed Rum Horn

This one was sealed with friction and epoxy on the end caps; a layer of salad bowl type sealer will go inside. I’ve sealed them with beeswax before.

    My Night Themed Rum Horn

Me and that possum didn’t get along too well; he was made on Covid, coffee, NyQuil, DayQuil and hate. I express appreciation to my mentor every trip to his shop and try to always clean up the shop to leave it in better condition to show my thanks. He’s patient with me.

    My Night Themed Rum Horn

I attempted to design a two faced moon/sun and it evolved into this one fingernail moon with stars. I think it’ll show up again on future horns.

    Thank you; I’m learning.

    My Night Themed Rum Horn

Thanks! Sipping directly from the horn is how it’d work.

    My Night Themed Rum Horn

I needed another scrimshaw project since I have been down with some back and leg issues and was losing my mind watching movies while confined in my chair. This rum horn is my seventeenth horn with sixteen of them being scrimshawed; it is my third rum horn. My mentor, Billy Griner, incorporated...

    Powder Horn Project Finished

I used knives, carbide scribes and hand made scribes. No power tools on the scrimshaw.
