I've seen a few in my day, from the percussion era, that had like 15 inch barrels and they were never fancy. Sort of the pistol equivalent of an SMR or a barn gun. Much cooler than the Pedersoli. I thought so anyway.
I'd like to see a Harpers Ferry. Or maybe a long barreled bear pistol. Pedersoli, I think, is the only game in town for the bear pistol and, in my opinion, it could use a bit more style. I think they call it the Bounty Hunter
SMR, or, southern mountain rifle. Nothing fancy, just plain and simple. I am digging that picture of the Pedersoli Dave posted. A good SMR and that Pedersoli and one would be all set.
I had a blonde Jukar a few years ago. And way back when I started with BP I went and bought two new Investarms rifles. One was a short barreled blonde Hawken. Those light colored stocks did look pretty nice.
Some brands do have a model number. Some just go by something like Hawken, Cherokee, Frontier... I could be wrong about that. But I looked up Italian stamps and that tree in a circle was allegedly Palmetto. I don't know anything about Mav. I'm guessing it could have been the importer, but don't...
If I'm blessed and lucky enough to make it I'll be, as the young folks used to say, kickin' it old school. Either a tent or a lean-to. Or just out on the ground by a fire if that's aloud.
The 1:48 twist is kind of a compromise. If you wanted to shoot nothing but bullets you'd want a fast twist like 1:20. Round ball only you're looking at slow twist like 1:66. The 48 was meant to handle both so you should be able to go either way. I guess it would be a medium twist.
Ill post a picture of the stamp on mine after while and we'll see if yours has the same stamp. Mine is a trade rifle, not a Hawken, but they should have the same stamp. The serial number should indicate what year it was made but I don't know how the do date codes.
Depends on the twist. Good chance it is 1:48 so will shoot balls or other. All the investarms guns I've had shot ball very well. Can't attest to any other bullet design as I've only shot round balls in my years of doing this.
Beautiful. My first deer years ago was piebald spike buck. White with brown patches and spots. Funny thing is I had been setting for several hours and hadn't seen anything. And was in woods on a cattle farm. Started to leave and saw movement to my left. That little buck came trotting by and I...
