    Newbie needs 1862 Police info

I would advise anyone who is going into the black Gunpowder hand gun area to get a steel frame 1851 Colt Navy .36 caliber. A strong and durable design that has a pleasing appearance. It is a clean design easy to load is economical of powder and lead. Mechanically it is easy to take apart to...

    Pyrodex P

BMZ is a little "hotter" that real black and does NOT like to be compressed. I use some from time to time and the fouling is consecutive not cumulative. That is you are pretty much one shot dirty and is is compatible with smokessomewhatless lubricants. Clean like you would for real black...

    Cleaning revolvers

Woody, that was just the Reader's Digest version of the Colt instructions. Water will dissolve the corrosive salts in the barrel. Here is the test of your favorite concoction, In a class pour in some of the cleaner and drop in a little table salt.. if the salt dissolves great. if it does not...

    Problem with Pyrodex pistol pellets

perhaps this is the wrong place, but the solution to the problem is use the pellets for fertilizer and shoot REAL Gunpowder any of that imitation stuff. By the way if you use it for fertilizer I have in on good authority it will cause rusty grass. Grouchy Curmudgeon Bunk

    Cap not tight on nipple

Loose caps, "pinched" caps are the path to a chain fire. Not particularly dangerous, but will require digging lead out of the rammer plunger and a clean set of shorts. Chain fires usually come from the back. Find a slo-motion of a revolver being fired and be surprised at the ball of fire from...

    Cleaning revolvers

No i think disgusted would be more correct. I had the chance to read the instructions in the lid of a beautiful pocket model cased set. Loading was simple pour in powder , ram down a ball, then cap. Under cleaning it said to use water, dry carefully and oil Seems pretty simple to me, how say...

    New Pietta 1851

How does it shoot? I shot a gun yesterday that is beautiful to LOOK at, but was a cap jam-o-matic. In 5 cylinder fulls (25 shots) I got 5 shots in a row with out a jam only ONE TIME. Perhaps that is why I am a bit irritable this morning. Or perhaps not enough coffee Good luck Tuck Bunk

    Cleaning revolvers

I don't know about you, Woodie, perhaps you are rolling in money, but that rack of firearms represent several thousand of dollars investment. to me so I take care of them. My opinion is anyone putting a gun in the dishwasher to clean it is because the owner is either too lazy to do a little...

    Cleaning revolvers

    Cleaning revolvers

I was cleaning the Navy because it would not get shot again for a long time and had a lot of rounds through it. I shoot from left to right and it was at the right end of the rack. Now iI am starting at the left end. It will be a long while before I get back to it. Usually it takes about 30 to 45...

    Cleaning revolvers

this afternoon I put 25 rounds through one of my Capt. Schaeffer 1851 .36 Navy guns. It took about 45 minutes to field strip, remove and clean nipples, barrel , frame, and cylinder then reassemble and put away. Fortunately i have a good well lighted work bench dedicated to things like this...

    1860 Sailors

it is a long story in the history of Colt firearms. This is the quick story as i remember it. The Texas Navy bought a hundred, as I recall, of the Paterson revolvers which kept Colt in business for a while. The Navy did not like them and the Texas Rangers got some and used them to great...
