    Coins

Im looking into building another rifle. The more I look, the more I find what I have may be better than what I can build. I am looking at the one screw lock mount of a southern rifle. Thinking about using a 1792 repop coin as a washer. Smallest Ive found is a 3/4 inch diameter one. Anyone...

    Patch Proof

Wont sludge up like those who use petroleum based oils. A few flakes came off the breech plug. I dont use a scraper, wire brush or any other mechanical devices. Just cleaner and patches. No water, no rust.

Frustrated - Hopefully just the growing pains of a newbie

Burnt black powder and petroleum oil make sludge. You have a sludge factory. Water under the bridge. Any water based soap down the barrel and through the touch hole. We use a rubber tipped nozzle and 160lb of compressed air.

    Simple question…..

I have to add that it also depends on WHO's lock you are using. Chamber's locks are milled tight. So just a crayon is all I use. At Rony where you are shooting more than one shot. I can see sloppy fitting frizzen getting the powder wet. I had one once. I kept it cover white shooting 25-75...

    Patch Proof

Some folks say bad stuff about Thompson Center 1000+ bore butter. Back in October I cleaned my rifle for the end of season. I pulled it out today to get ready for the first rondy (3 weeks!!) I ran this patch down the barrel and spun it around when it hit the plug. As you can see, there is some...

    The information here.....

Review everything and make up your own mind. On several firearm subjects on you tube, there are no correct videos. Others trying to figure it out, just like the rest of us.

JB Weld on frizzen to hold powder?

Seems like another production gun problem. I just checked my Chamber's lock. Both the pan and frizzen show no daylight through them. Machining the parts so they fit would be the way to go. Gluing stuff is just a stop gap measure.

    “Waterproofing” your lock

Bright colors work best so you can see where you laid it down at. I dont color my BP lube.

    What the heck

I had not thought of that, cool. Makes more sense than what I thought of. A primitive air vent, like Mike's hot shot nipples that sent the air pressure out the vent holes for better ignition.

    Possibilities of your possibles

I use a English fouler belt bag. Holds everything I need and is small and out of the way. Came all the way from England.

Not sure if I can make this happen but…..

I installed a sight like that on my 45/70. Using the tang screw, even when I lay it down to use the factory peeps the recoil hits my cheek. Now I know why Quigley unscrewed his. Currently looking for a thumb screw so I can remove it.

    holster question

Many moons ago I used to do quick draw with a SAA. The barrel of the 1860 is too long for me to wear it on the right side. So I went with a Slim Jim cross draw. Then I opened up the trigger area for a quicker draw. If I ever went two guns, I would get another Slim Jim right side and wear them...
