    High humidity reeks havoc

I shot a cowboy match this past weekend, two Colt 2nd Gen 1851s set up with Manhattan conversions and Six Shot nipples, .375 Hornady balls, lubed .36 wads, 15 grains of Goex 3F, Rem #10 caps, loaded on the gun in a stand, caps installed with a Ted Nash Snail capper, 6 stages, 5 shots from each...

    I got a screw loose!

For disassembly I use a "mechanic's tray". And the Magna-Tip driver set from Brownell's.

    Ordered a uberti navy

A properly made 1851 Colt clone will have the below shown relief cut in the barrel shank to accomadate loading of conicals: This happens to be a 2nd Gen Colt, but its main parts are of Uberti manufacture. I have a copy of a Colt mould that casts a 90 grain conical and 77 grain round ball. The...

Pietta 1851 navy colt hammer issue. Help!!!

As a cowboy action shooter, I pour directly from my Colt style flask with a measured spout and valve. I'll shoot my stage, (typically 10 shots from rifle, 10 from pistols & 4+ from shotgun in varying orders) then move to the unloading table and remove any cap fragments and show rifle & shotgun...

    Pietta 1851 noobie first impressions

Depending on the nipples, your first trigger pull may have only seated the cap, for actual firing on the second strike. I use a piece of bone to make sure the caps are fully seated.

Triple Seven seems to have solved my misfiring problem, but now what should I do with my Pyrodex?

Actually, I do have quite a bit of experience using it... and cleaning up after its use also... over a period of 10 or so years... which is why I won't use it, recommend its use and actively discourage its use. It takes a lot more cleaning than real BP, if not cleaned repeatedly it WILL flash...

Italian firearm manufacturers, did they shut down?

If you're looking for a Pietta Paterson, check with EMF. But, I've had a order in with Uberti for a custom non-cataloged 1860 Henry since Jan of 2020, initially told it'd take about 90 days to receive... famous last words, as Uberti was particularly hard hit with Covid.

    I got a screw loose!

Ruger plunger & hand spring along with a Manhattan Conversion, plus a wire trigger & bolt spring. Timed so the bolt hits just ahead of the midpoint of the ramp before lockup.

    I got a screw loose!

I've been shooting Uberti produced 1851s (although they all have Colt markings), since 1986 and have never faced a short arbor "problem". They might or might not be, but if you don't force the wedge to the point that your cylinder won't turn, you don't have a problem. My guns set up to...

Triple Seven seems to have solved my misfiring problem, but now what should I do with my Pyrodex?

Fertilizer. The only good thing that comes from Pyrodex. If you gave me your can of Pyrodex and your gun to shoot it in, I'd still use my BP.

Cap Jams … again. But this solved my issue

There are only two ways to prevent cap sucking: 1 - a cap rake, basically a post at the top of the hammer channel to keep caps from falling into the action; or 2 - a Manhattan Conversion, a narrowing of the hammer slot to just about the width of a nipple and attendant narrowing of the hammer...

    Uberti 1851 Navy

I cut a fine line of lead when I load .375 balls in my Colt 2nd Series (Uberti parts) and I put those in front of 15 grains of 3F Goex and a .36 lubed wad. More powder is just wasted. More lube is simply messier.

    1862 Police Cylinder binds

I'm inclined to say that you didn't get the caps seated all the way. I have that same issue on my 1851... Slix Shot nipples & #10 Remington caps. Not so much with CCI #11s or RWS 1075... as the length of the Remington caps engage more of the nipple cone. I either turn the capper over and use...

Pleasant Afternoon with the Pietta .36 1851 Navy

Sorry to disappoint, but, I have to take those words back. I just had the worst afternoon ever at the range. If it could go wrong, it did. 1st the Chronograph didn't want to turn on... So I figured I'd just forgo that bit... Then I realized that I didn't pack my tool box, which carries...

Pleasant Afternoon with the Pietta .36 1851 Navy

It's been over 36 years since I fired at a paper target I couldn't tell you. What I seem to recall from the day in mid 1987 is that I shot the center of the target out after about 5 or 6 cylinders full! But... I'll answer tomorrow if my plans remain unchanged. I load ~15 grains* of 3F under...

    Real black powder

BTW: Look at the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) for details on Blackhorn 209 for what it contains, hazards and handling needs. I am surprised that Western Powder is even allowed to call it a BP substitute. By it's own label it states it is for "Modern In-Line Muzzleloaders." I also...

    1862 Woes

IMNSHO, the issue of cap jams happens with folks overcharging chambers, especially .36 caliber guns, anything more than ~15 grains is really not needed. I've never had any volunteers to see if the RB out of my 1851s bounces off anyone's chest! They may not make a 25-30lb piece of ½" steel...

    firing cone trouble

My first C&B revolver was an ASM made of Uberti parts left over from the Colt 2nd Series... my next 5 C&B revolvers have all been Colt 2nd Series... all the same model, 1851s. ALL have had soft nipples... and ALL are replaced with SlixShot before even being fired the first time by me. Even my...

new gun for me: Uberti 1851 Navy!

Your facts do not fit with my experience. Just how "wet" are your lubed wads? They don't have to running with oil to be effective. Mine are barely wetter than dry. No contamination whatsoever. Heck, I've even taken the cylinder out and started cleaning after a day's shooting, running water...
