A Very Unique Ruger Old Army

Yeah, I think even I would buy that one just because. And the setback on the barrel makes it a nice looking length. I expect some one did it just because they could. Looks like it would be fun to load and shoot. Truly unique, fun, well done. What else is there?

    TC Hawken Custom Info

Run a cleaning rod down it and measure the twist if you want to know. Probably the depth of the rifling is different between a roundball barrel and a 1/48 barrel. I think TC made a Pennsylvania Hunter model rifle with a round ball barrel?

TC Hawkens. Looking to get my first.

Buy the gun. The sights add value. You can buy new barrels from TOW and peruse ebay for barrels and other stuff. The barrels interchange easily and you can put the scope on a barrel dedicated to that use. Not familiar with the scope you mention but a lot of scope installations include...

    Thompson percussion rifles

I like my 2 TC Hawkens. If buying again from scratch I would go with the Lyman GP rifles. Right now I am thinking about adding a .54 cal round ball barrel to the Hawken. Or maybe a Lyman rifle. Somebody said..."its all good".

A Very Unique Ruger Old Army

I sure like it as a unique gun built for a purpose, Whoever did that conversion and built the loading tool just did not believe in going halfway, And no, I will not be trying to duplicate it,

    Pietta 1858 Stainless Target problem....

I personally would shoot it and see what it does, Pretty expensive gun. I would consider having the barrel set back and re chambered but have no idea how much that would cost or if someone would do it or if that barrel would actually come out. The target model would be important to me since I...

T/C Hawken gets a new Barrel

This thread has been a journey for me as well. I really got the urge to order one of the .54 barrels after reading this thread. But I am sequestered 1000 miles from my gun.. Was going to order it and keep it until I got home. But..now I know I need to wait until I can try it for defects when...

T/C Hawken gets a new Barrel

I was going to order one. Now I think I will wait a while. Thanks for posting.

    New Muzzleloader

I have a couple of TC Hawkens. But..... My advise is to buy a Lyman GPR in .54 caliber and with the 1/60 twist round ball barrel.

    T/C .45 Hawken Rifle Values

Yes, the .45 costs a bit more. Yes, I am retired now and have more money and time to waste on BP guns than I did in the 70"s. But not much incentive to buy better guns than the TC. The .50's are a whole lot more available both in used guns and barrels and new replacement barrels. I started...

TC Hawken 45 cal. Barrel Rebore

.45 caliber conicals are a perfect weight.

    T/C .50 Hawken and conicals?

Conicals shoot good in mine. But if you hunt with them you have to worry about them staying down on the powder. The ones we do not talk about fit fine, load easily, stay in place, and shoot 1/2" groups at 50 yards from mine. Using a sight we do not talk about either. Recoil is fearsome with...

    Alternate Hawken options

Buy the Lyman Great Plains and cut 2" of of it.

Barrel switch for new caliber in TC Hawken?

Lots of Hawken barrels on eBay. They just drop in. Nothing against getting a new one made up either.

.50 cal TC to 28 guage

Yes, I was not thinking. A jug choke would be much more appropriate on a muzzleloader and would be effective.

.50 cal TC to 28 guage

Never had a muzzleloading shotgun. But I think it will need to be choked to be much use as a shotgun. Having screw in chokes added might not appeal to tradition but it would certainly improve the results for a shotgun.

TC Hawken rare stock? Experts please.

I would leave it like it is and build another one. But I would not buy one outright with a laminated stock. If it was custom shop I wonder what other improvements it might have?

    .50 Cal Hawken Barrel Options?

Sell it unless you are looking for a project that will cost money and probably end up sitting in the closet when you are finished.

Length of pull questions concerning Hawkens.

Obviously your situation is different than mine. Sounds like you do actually need a stock that fits you. Not impossible. But probably difficult with stock factory made guns.

Length of pull questions concerning Hawkens.

Length of pull means a lot to me in a shotgun. Not so much on a muzzzle loader rifle.
