    Curly maple staining

What works for me is to use regular LMF stain or Fiebings leather dye (medium brown is my favorite for most guns) and to really scrub it back with a scotch-brite pad or even some really fine sandpaper or steel wool before finishing it with Tru-oil, Minwax Antique oil or whatever.

I'm sending a PM, wouldn't mind having them.

Patching Material for Patched Round Balls

They claim that you should wash cotton ticking to take the sizing out before shooting. Not sure how much difference it makes, but I presume they're softer and more pliable after washing.

All 4 calls have been sold. Thanks for looking. I may occasionally put up others and will accept cash or trades when/if I do.

Jonathan Browning Mountain rifle new in the box what is it worth

I'm hopeful to have one to sell or trade here soon, but I don't think it's new in the box (I bought it at auction sight unseen, although the photos look pretty good).

    Old black powder.

It's definitely manufactured in Great Britain, I should have just read the can. Anyone want a venture a guess on possible value of the empty can?

    Old black powder.

Thanks for all of the great info folks, glad I posted the photo. I hadn't really read the small print on the can and had no clue that it was made overseas.

    Old black powder.

Thanks, my first thought was that the can was likely worth more than the powder, but in these days, maybe not.

    Old black powder.

This is a new one for me, does anybody recognize this brand. surely it's very old, but the powder seems fine and I'll burn it.

    Fowler

Ha. I happen to be about to start building one. Mine will be a .58/24 gauge, stocked in curly cherry, sitting fox barrel, shorter although I don't recall the exact length, round-faced lock and a Twigg style stock. It's christening may/should happen in your state in late September with my...

    Looking for ML kit builder

I've been asked repeatedly if I'd build X, Y or Z for this guy or that guy and up until very recently, I've always said no. I say no for two primary reasons, although there are others. First of all, because I've not really been confident that others would be happy with the work after they got...

SOLD Turkey Box calls for sale or trade......

I actually just ran them again and #4 does sound like a turkey. Needs some tweaking, but it's almost there. Any of the 4 would kill a bird on the right day and if used properly. ;)

SOLD Turkey Box calls for sale or trade......

I just made a group of 13 box calls for myself, my brothers and a few select friends. I picked out the 9 calls that I thought sounded best and I have these 4 left over. Calls #1-3 (from the left in photo 1) sound like turkeys and call #4 isn't quite there yet. In fairness, I've spent almost...

    TRADE Bear Grease

Welcome to the forum. I have no need of the bear grease but I also enjoy seeing guys horse trading.

    L & R out of business?

Oh no, geez I hope not. I'm one of those who has had several L&R locks that I thought were fine (and one with some issues), but the point is that it's a small industry with limited choices to begin with and I for one don't wish to have even fewer choices moving forward.

    Barrel inletting question....

Thanks, good info to consider and I'll keep it in mind.

    First time turkey hunter

Be patient, call less than you think you need to (unless you're an exceptional caller and even then most guys call too frequently). Don't move if there's a bird nearby, not so much as a hair. Don't assume you can get away with it. Be patient.
