    Gemmer Hawken review

Gotta ask how tall that front sight started at if you filed a quarter inch off of it. Granted it was nearly decade ago, but when I built patience” I went fixed rear and didn’t have to take the front down much. Did widen the rear notch a bit.

    Guesstimate my muzzle velocity?

Where/how to aim to hit at a given distance - probably so. Actually How fast it goes - not so much.

    Guesstimate my muzzle velocity?

Yup. I use an old style caldwell myself. I like to do velocity and accuracy testing at the same time. Stuff hanging on the barrel change the harmonics.

Can't separate flintlock cock and tumbler

You really wanna get ‘em going, keep the label and drill the hole the whole way thru.

    Guesstimate my muzzle velocity?

Yup. It attaches to the barrel or stock. I tried to do a screenshot from the pdf of the manual but it is too big to upload. Don't wanna post a pic of it on a modern rifle and get my willie whacked by the trad-popo.

Has anyone here successfully barked a squirrel?

Had an “semi-unsuccessful barking” once with a 54 prb. Created “rocky the nearly headless flying squirrel”.

    Guesstimate my muzzle velocity?

Doesn’t the Magneto-speed basically attach to the barrel of the gun, cannot really move it back.

Frizzen wear - smooth it or replace it

Does it spark - yes. Main concern was the marks at the impact point and whether they were lessening the flint life, an indication of a soft spot that needed cleaned up/replacement, Or the knapped chert that Rich sold was supposed to be pretty hard & it might be wearing a bit on the frizzen...

Frizzen wear - smooth it or replace it

I AM using hand knapped flints done by Rich Pierce. I have considered getting some English just to see if there’s any difference

Frizzen wear - smooth it or replace it

Thanks guys… wasn’t quite sure if I had an issue. I’ve used nothing but Rich’s chert flints that I got a few years ago (I will need to source more flints from somewhere in the near future as I’m down to my last couple). The one that I just pulled didn’t last as long and really seemed to be...

Frizzen wear - smooth it or replace it

so, I pulled Patience (my Lyman GPR) out to put a fresh Rich Pierce flint in for the upcoming PA rock-lock season and noticed dents/nicks in the frizzen where the flint makes initial contact. I am gonna mess with the leather pad and wrap to change the impact angle a few degrees cuz it looked...

    Remington vs Colt?

Gotta say this is gonna be a lot more individual too.... I just got a Uberti 1858 New army 44 and popped off 3 cylinders of 30gr 777 under a round ball without any issues and my hands are just a good 2xl+ when I buy a new pair of lined deerskin gloves.. I'm about 11" around the palm and 9" wrist...

    By request, Loooong range shoot...

Yes sir... That was the start of my season and I was getting back on the ice after knee surgery and a 5 month layoff. I didn't visit here again until stuff slowed a bit.... I missed seeing it. My loss.... What sucks is that I broke my leg and messed up my ankle this morning so I'm back on IR...

    By request, Loooong range shoot...

Been cold, and windy here in SW PA.... This one is more of a warm weather shoot IMHO... Not one to try to get in while chasing bambi's in fading light. When I haven't been at work I've been in an ice rink... still hoping to get out and do this one....

    Stretching gunflints

So that's what that damn thing was... lost my footing on a muddy side hill couple years ago and went for a slide... reached out to grab a small tree to stop myself and it "bit me" pretty hard. I had to climb back past it and stopped to look, but never bothered to actually find out what it was...

I thought i found a local source for Goex

Dave, I pulled up the current in stock prices on Grafs website..... SO $15.99\lb plus shipping and hazmat is accurate... You DO make a good point on the costs associated with paying the commonwealth of PA their ransom.... and just how screwed up PA can be....

    Two-fer ??

Again, I agree that the two-fer is NOT a shot to be taken and I freely admit to stirring the pot with this one, but I really expected to see at least a few more say that they would try this shot.... I am once again pleased with the integrity of the folks on here. :hatsoff: I...

    Two-fer ??

Interesting that the same sentiment didn't arise in the other thread.... Just to stir the pot a bit, is it because we respect the deer more than the hogs or is it that just happened vs trying to kill two with one shot?
