    Nebraska goat.

His body looks gigantic in that photo, very fat. Very nice for a front-stuffer. "Made the books for Nebraska muzzy goat too!" Is the 'book' a muzzleloading state book?

    My boys first turkey hunt

    That looks like a Gould's .... or maybe a Merriam's.

    Gun range

Try what I did. 6' pressure-treated posts stuck down in the ground with post-hole diggers. Then build a shooting table out of P.T 2x4s. I built mine in the 1990s and it's still doing fine. Termites and other pests destroy regular lumber down here. In Indiana your P.T. bench could last for a...

    Gun range

I think you're right about that at least on this site.

    Gun range

I have a 230 yd. range in the cow pasture with dirt hills and junked freezers, washers, etc. for a backstop. I have to make sure the cows are in other pastures then close the gates and blaze away. It doesn't help my shooting any but it is convenient.

    Round ball and blood trails

I haven't shot a deer with a round ball yet. I started using Maxiballs in the '70s and still do. They exit and give excellent blood trails ... IF the deer run at all.

Fears Deadly Deer Disease Could Infect Humans

CWD is new here in Florida. Just one case so far. How do Coloradans deal with determining whether a killed deer is fit to eat or should be disposed of?

    Do you gut your deer?

I have a younger friend. He is in his 50s. He shoots a deer, loads it, and drives to the processor. It costs him over $100 to have the deer skinned, gutted, and made into burger. I think he's just lazy or too fastidious about his appearance. I skin, gut, quarter and butcher the deer myself. I...

    Deer sled

It looks as if it would make a good 2-person toboggan in the winter. :thumb:

    Ducks, Dogs, and Muzzleloaders

Nice mixed bag. Terriers are tough but usually just want to kill everything. I had one that I had to force fetch before she would retrieve but after that she was a whirlwind. Females are the best to use for hunting IMO. They get down to business and don't have to scent mark every bush they...

    Black grouse and capercaillie hunting

After seeing all that snow, I'm glad that I've been in Florida for the last 52 years. However, if I had a chance for capercaillie or black cocks, I might have changed my mind.

The old .45 Flinter did it again

An old but valid sailors' adage: "Red sky in morning, sailor take warning. Red sky at night, sailors' delight." Good thing that you're in a blind.

    Grouse & dove hunt.

Are they the same as blue grouse or the same as spruce grouse? Both can be pretty stupid .... as can ruffed grouse in the mountains.

It’s a great day to be in the woods!

In 2016 I had a triple bypass. They told me to wait 6 mos. before hunting again. There are no deer seasons here in March so I fudged and went hunting 7 weeks after discharge. However, I broke one of the wires that held my chest together while climbing a tree. Luckily, it wasn't a big deal...

    Coastal Blacktail

How far a shot was it? I hunted for blacktails years ago but struck out. Congrats to you.

Strange Day for Me in the Woods.

    I'm 80 and I guess I'm still mad at 'em. 😄

    Chronic Wasting Disease

We now have a verified case of CWD in Fla. Road kill in the panhandle along the Alabama line. There were a few reports from the state to take a blood sample and have it tested. I haven't the foggiest on where to take the samples. I killed a deer last week and have it aging but it can't age...

Bad Shot Leaves a Hard Tracking Job

Me too. I had Brittanies until the quail all disappeared. A small brown spaniel bred in America in Boykin/Camden, SC. The State dog of South Carolina, bred mainly as a retriever but will hunt anything you allow it to. About 5 years ago the AKC recognized them and I'm sure they will be ruined...

Bad Shot Leaves a Hard Tracking Job

I was sitting in a ladder stand between rows of pines when I got a glance of deer legs coming. I quickly pulled up my Hawken replica with 90 gr of 3F and a maxi-ball, pulled the set trigger and fired as she was almost out of the shooting lane. She bolted and bounced down the same lane to the end...
