    Overpriced sellers

I often ask at gun shows where the gold is hidden in the overpriced gun or item. I do sometimes find some cool items related to blackpowder shooting on tables full of unmentionables that can be had at a great deal just because the seller thinks its unsellable and doesn't want to carry it home...

    Overpriced sellers

I went to a flea market a couple months ago and saw a long pattern brown bess on a table. I looked at it briefly quickly coming to the conclusion it was not original. He told me he got it from a estate clean out and the family told him the man had it for at least 75 years. He wanted $2000 for...

    POLISHING THE PRIMING PAN

When i bought my flintlock rifle used it had a small pit or casting imperfection in the bottom of the pan. I didn’t like the powder and residue sitting in it so i ground it out then polished. I did notice an improvement in wiping it clean when needed between shots and at clean up at the end of...

    Gun show find - Jezail?

In the film The man who would be King with Michael Caine and Sean Connery, Kipling played by Christopher Plummer. makes an appearance in the film. The three have some scenes together and i have always liked the masonic password they share. “ We have met on the level .. And We shall depart on...

    Gun show find - Jezail?

Those accessories are fantastic. Were the blades sharp? Many swords from different nations are rather blunt. Are the finer swords easy to recognize from the avg? Ive seen some swords like that in the past at shows. I will definitely be taking second looks now. I would like to learn more so i...

    Gun show find - Jezail?

Real world testing. Nothing beats that. I may try hunting with my matchlock. It must be enlightening to work with the accouterments that go with these arms. The middle eastern guns and guns of Afghanistan have very different powder flasks and accessories. How are they in use? Anything about...

    Gun show find - Jezail?

Not at all. Im fascinated with all older weapons technology. The function and development of these guns, stock shapes, the reasoning behind their design are intriguing. For me experiencing how they function and shoot draw me in. For example those big fishtail matchlocks can be surprisingly...

    Gun show find - Jezail?

I have several thoughts/options on what to do with this they are: 1 puzzle the parts together ,wire to a nice board and hang on the wall for display 2 glue the parts back together in the best manner possible and hang on the wall or rack as is. 3 do a finer job repairing and restoring the gun...

    Gun show find - Jezail?

Thanks Rudyard. Next month i am attending the Victorian rifleman shoot and they will be going to international military antiques also known as IMA. The warehouse is open to our group. I may bring this down with me and see if some of the locks fit. What were the chances that jezails were ever...

    Gun show find - Jezail?

Thanks Aj! I did see that video last night and a few others to try to learn more about it. The ball in the barrel was not a ball but a hard impacted dirt that went all the way to the breach plug. Took a-lot of effort to clean it all out. Most jezails i have seen so far have been longer...

Spoke with one of Leonard Days sons at the show and he said he intends to continue building the guns he and his dad built. This includes a nice .62 cal matchlock musket.
