    Original Colt 1851 navy!!!

Thank you! As a matter of fact it is. The only thing I didn't do was the conversion as it was purchased as one.

    Original Colt 1851 navy!!!

Hope I don't cause to much stir as this is a conversion I am currently in the process of redoing but here is what I'm talking about on the hammers. While still replica, much work was done to achieve a more correct style of checkering and profile I also shortened the barrel and loading lever...

    Original Colt 1851 navy!!!

Several things led me to believe that this particular pistol was original. One was the fact that it had been in the owners family since the civil war. This pistol is not for sale or anything, just that the owner brought it by our shop for show and tell. Another is the markings and barrel address...

.45cal 2X PRB Field Test gets Doe for needy family

Congratulations on a successful hunt. I was wondering if you had two exit holes or did you have a complete pass through at all? I to have experimented with a double ball load and have had success with it. :hatsoff:

    That is a good point.

    .380" PRB in .40 cal?

You will just have to experiment but I think you will find that they will be plenty accurate at 25 yards

    .380" PRB in .40 cal?

As others have stated already, they can work just fine. I usually use 390 in mine but recently bought a big box that measured 380 but had been mismarked as 390s. I was going to melt them down and recast them but decided to try some anyway. They loaded very easy and accuracy at 25 to 35 yards...

    Shoulder shots?

I am not advocating shoulder shots or smaller cal ball usage but I thought I would show these pics just for reference. Cal was a 40 cal prb traveling at 1900+ fps at 50 yards. Could not get buck to stop and took a walking shot that hit on the shoulder on the left side, not the shot i wanted but...

Successful ozark hunt ( pic heavy)

Finally got a chance to sit down and tell about one of the most fun and successful deer hunts I've been in in a long time. Fellow forum member and friend, turkhunter and I had spent the last year at work planing a muzzle loader hunt in the Ozark National Forest. We got to leave late Thursday...

    .40 Cal Poor Boy

When shooting my 40 if I'm shooting stouter loads such as 60 gr or so I swab with a couple damp, not soaking wet patches every 4 or 5 shots. If I'm using light loads like 15 to 30 gr I swab about every 10 or so. Every rifle likes a different routine but it's not much different then my 50. In...

    Next rifle--.32,36,40???

I usually use goex but last week when I chronoed I was using Kik which was the first time for me to try that. I think I'm going try my old load next week and see if I find a difference in velocity from brand to brand. I would try the 15 gr load as well as I think you will be surprised just how...

    Original Colt 1851 navy!!!

A fellow came by the shop a few days ago with an original colt 1851 and holster that had been through the civil war. It was In good shape and appeared all original except for a small repair to the loading lever latch. I also noticed this particular pistol had a front sight dovetailed into it and...

    Next rifle--.32,36,40???

My original small game load was 25 gr of 3 f but after a trip to the range last week with a chrono and a friend and fellow member here, I dropped down to 15 gr of powder. If you notice only one of those shots were head shots and the other were body shots with one shot through the shoulders and...

    Next rifle--.32,36,40???

You have two mighty fine looking rifles yourself. In fact my 36 could very well be the mate to your southern rifle. It was built by TVM many years ago and is a nice rifle. I guess to be honest that is one reason I carry my 40 is because not only do i like the caliber but it is a rifle I built...
