    NAA Companion

Last Saturday I played with the NAA Companion cap n ball revolver with a cylinder full of Hodgdon 777 and .240 buck shot topped with grease. I managed to chronograph one shot at 544 feet per second. It easily went thru a pc of 1/2” plywood. Then i thought hmmmmm, what if i tried some 22 cal...

Firing 777 through a Pedersoli CS Richmond and getting decent results......

I got out last Saturday with the muskettoon. 72 degrees and humid. Shot about 20 rounds 777 under greased mini balls. The last loaded as smooth as the first going down under weight of the rod. No crud ring. Instant ignition with RWS musket caps. Easiest clean up with water and patches. Another...

Firing 777 through a Pedersoli CS Richmond and getting decent results......

Humidity has been my friend for softening fowling, at least with BP. In hot weather it makes soup in flintlock pan and man is it miserable to sweat in. The damp makes it feel mighty cold in the winter. I have not shot enough 777 to really know but as easy as it cleans up with water, I would...

Firing 777 through a Pedersoli CS Richmond and getting decent results......

I shot some 2fg 777 with regular cci no. 11 caps in my percussion 50 and had no ignition problems at all. Very easy clean up.

I am flabergasted that no lube minie balls dont lead up the bore. All my vintage loading beliefs are being challenged. I will have to get up the nerve to try it. I have 2 lbs 2F 777 to burn. Learn something new every day 😉

Removing the barrel on a hooked breech rifle for cleaning, yes or no??

Hooked breech comes out of the stock for cleaning. I built myself a Tennessee flintlock with an over the comb tang. The barrel Never comes out of the stock. My other full stock pinned barrel guns generally get cleaned in the stock by pumping water thru it with a piece of hose on the nipple or...

777 in your CW Musket...what bullet lube?

When I shoot my enfield carbine with BP I use crisco to lube the minies. For those of you who have loaded 777 under a miniball, what lube did you use. I have 3 lbs to burn up. I know. Not PC. But at $10 a lb on clearance during a powder shortage I couldnt pass it up. Thanks....Lynn

I found another manufactured by Reading. I read there were over 30 makers of Lyle guns. Lets see what your tag reveals.

Help identify a 2.5 inch cannon

I think cleaning the copper tag at the breech will tell the story. From the web I found the following info..... A World War II era iron line throwing gun on carriage. The brass maker's plaque engraved "Sculler Safety Corp. No.2175, 122 Broad Street NYC". Same information emboseed in raised...
