    Projectiles for rifled barrels

I just looked at the Paulson Brothers Ordnance Corporation website and the smallest rifle projectile they offer is 2.6”. Casting your own may be your best bet.

    Projectiles for rifled barrels

Perhaps a 2.25” confederate mountain rifle? I dont know if 2.25” ammo is a avilable but if anyone had it, the Paulson Bros. in Wisconsin would be my first thought.

Everyone's thoughts about these rifles ?

Of the 3 the 50 cal SMR would be my choice provided the bore is in excellent condition. It would be the closest to a gun from back in the day. JMHO and good luck with your decision.

    Projectiles for rifled barrels

Disregard the bullet impact in the base. I dug this out of the gun club back stop. It had been shot into the berm about 30 years ago.

    Projectiles for rifled barrels

A friend of mine has an original 2.9” Parrot gun. He cast zinc “bullets” actually called Bolts ie solid shot in the shape of originals. Zinc is almost the same weight as cast iron. They are machined to just fit the bore. They have 3 3/8”-16 bolts cast into the base when the casting is poured...

Help identify a 2.5 inch cannon

We need a full side view. It looks like a line throwing gun. Perhaps a Lyle gun. Very hard to tell from the photos.

    Full scale cannon re-build

Quite a journey and a true labor of love. Though you have proved it perfectly safe I fully understand your desire to bring the barrel up to the safest of standards. I look forward to the re-assembly and range report! All the best to you and keep the updates coming......

I am overwhelmed. Just because i enjoy making my guns You will not find me looking down on anyone’s store bought gun. The first I ever bought was a “Springfield Hawken” which it was neither but after some stock reshaping, the 50 cal no longer busted my cheek bone. I look forward to our...

Long time flinter who also enjoys percussions

Hi CVA. I have always wanted to learn the art of the Tap a Cap or modern equivalent home made percussion cap. I just saw a post here on the forum to adapt the modern small pistol primer using plastic tubing to fire our percussion guns. Remarkable!!! Ive been here only a short time and already...

Long time flinter who also enjoys percussions

Hi sethawa. Ive never made a matchlock but it sure is tempting. Ihave an ordinance manual describing the making of match cord that most any of us could do. Another avenue to explore some time for sure.

Long time flinter who also enjoys percussions

I’ve been making my own muzzle loaders for over 30 years both flint and percussion. As a long time member at ALR I thought i would join here as it seems a bit more cap gun friendly with a wider variety of interests. Thanks for letting me in......Lynn
