Thoughts and/or identification of this percussion (fowler?), please.

I have no clue. (Yes it probably does mean that I'm clueless!;)). What gives you that idea?

Thoughts and/or identification of this percussion (fowler?), please.

This was my first firearm, some 70 years ago and it fueled my love of history and guns, guns, guns! I "found" it in the old blacksmith shop on the farm 200 year old farm in MA that my grandfather bought in 1920 for his retirement (it's still in the family). I also "found" a bayonet that fit on...

    Glad to be here.

Well hello Jim and welcome from the coast of Maine! You have chosen well! I'm a fairly new member myself (at age 76) and I can attest to the fact that this is a great band of people from many walks of life (and many stages of life also). They bring a sense of humor along with their knowledge...

    WANTED Calvary Saber

Hey Bill, Is the 1902 the last image in the group? It looks very much like my father's dress saber (I couldn't enlarge the image). Do you know if they made a "working" 1902 saber or is that one? My dad's dress saber would never hold up to any kind of real use. I agree that the 1860 looks a bit...

    WANTED Calvary Saber

I don't think so. He was adamant about the usefulness of a curved blade on horseback. The Patton is the correct time frame but I wonder if National Guard troops might have had the "left overs" from other conflicts?

    WANTED Calvary Saber

Since shipping a black stallion to Jerusalem might be a dite expensive (not to mention buying one), I guess I'll have to sit on a sawhorse again!

    WANTED Calvary Saber

Well, I just might! When I was a tad, my father would put his saddle on a sawhorse, hang his Sam Browne and saber on me in the saddle and teach me saber maneuvers and commands as well as bugle calls. My arms were too short to draw the saber in one motion so I had to use both hands to get it out...

    WANTED Calvary Saber

My father was a Lieutenant in the 107th Cleveland National Guard Calvary in the early 1920's and 30's. I have his dress saber but would like to add a "working" saber to his kit. I am not sure of the model. Any help to find an appropriate saber in good condition is appreciated. Thank you

Need help with Pedersoli Sharps rear sight

Thank you too very much. The sides of the staff are as rough as a cobb. Looks like I ought to do a little smoothing up with the judicious use of a file and carry a very small screwdriver with me. I figured that was probably the case, not much room for spring in there. Oh well, I still love that...

    Caps Redux

A few months ago my powder dealer got powder back in stock but few caps, while Cabella's had tons of caps. Musket, #10 and #11's. I don't understand how the supply chain (dosen't) work.

Need help with Pedersoli Sharps rear sight

I recently purchased a used Pedersoli Sharps. It's a real honey except for the rear sight. When I received it, the screw on the left side of the slider was very loose and it would not stay up. I tightened the screw and it will stay in place but it is very rough and difficult to move (without a...

    Times change

,Well, OK, so my memory ain't as sharp as it usterbee. Lucky Strike goes/has gone to war. I used to buy them for 14 cents a pack before Kentucky imposed "Sin Taxes" on Bourbon (all booze, actually) and tobacco products. I gave them up when they reached $1.00/pack. Can't imagine what they are...

    Gun Lost :’(

P.S. All's well that ends well. After thawing the gun out, it works like a dream and no damage done except my ruffled feathers and my friend getting ripped-off for the extra fee that he paid for the service.

    Gun Lost :’(

Oh yeah, I recently purchased a 2nd gen Colt Navy from a fellow member here who shipped it "priority, signature required" and it got tangled up in the tracking debacle. When it finally arrived, I found it attached to the top of my rural mailbox with a rubber band in sub-zero weather! What a...

Need help picking a first rifle

Flints vs caps. Mail order flints from someone like Track of the Wolf and the most you will have to pay extra is the postage to ship while to buy caps by mail you will have to pay a hazmat fee as well. Mailorder powder also has a hazmat fee. I believe that the fee is about $40. If you go the cap...
