    Self contained shot load......

I found, at least with my load that too much “gas seal” between the powder and the shot caused blown patterns. That’s why I use a felt wad. The heavy nitro card over the paper shot cup and sloppy fiber wad on top were the ticket. Back in the day, before I knew of the Skychief special, I was...

    Finally got me a smoothbore

Do try the Skychief special shot load. Most people see nice uniform patters. I had to do a paper “shot cup” to get the best pattern for turkeys. Putting lube on the paper cup keeps it from slugging. At least for me. Like you said load development is always a hoot! My 12 ga double likes the...

    Oregon flintlock longbeard

It’s a 36 inch barrel I had made by Greg Christian! It is really handy. I made it short to fit in a hard case that would be Airline approved. I also made it with a standard length of pull so anyone can shoot it. All my other flinters have longer length of pull to fit me. But I don’t have any...

    Oregon flintlock longbeard

I have to give credit where credit is due! It was Brokennock that did the thread on the shot cups mine are a little different but I got the idea from him. The tallow on the shot cut was Blackhands idea. That’s what I remembered. Thank you both for sharing the knowledge!! Put together with the...

    Oregon flintlock longbeard

I usually put the beard as part of my display. I have found the bristles to be rather delicate. Honestly I felt I was shaking like a leaf!! My heart was beating so hard!! One of the best feeling in the world!!

    Last day turkey-again

Tsaah Wookkuh Okawbow!!! Turkey's are a challenge, and public land birds are even more of a challenge! Especially when they hear every call bass pro shops sells! I have found that they respond to home made calls better! It's been studied that they can distinguish different calls and recognize...

California Spring Turkey Opens March 30: Who is going and what are you shooting?

What subspecies of turkey do you have there in California? Here in Oregon there are the Eastern subspecies. In New Mexico they were Merriams Subspecies. Just curious. Thanks!!
