Hello all Looking for help ID ing a flintlock

Wish I was near my stash of Buckskin Reports. I think that was the source of articles about someone removing barrel markings and selling as custom made at big bucks. Been too long since I read the articles and don't want to speculate as I could get the story wrong. I recall it being discussed...

    Dilemma on sights

I had cataracts so bad I could not see a Chevy van at 30 yards in daylight and headlights completely blinded me at night, Wife had to drive me everywhere. Had surgery on both eyes, and tied for first place in the rifle shoot at the next rendezvous a few weeks later. Find a doctor who is a...

What size Dutch oven or potjie to be the only cast iron in a solo camp?

I have legged Dutch ovens from 6" to 16" in 2" increments along with 10 & 12" spyders. The 6" was my parent's. They make a small cobbler each night on their many camping trips ~50 years ago. Most of the heavy iron was acquired in my BSA leader days, which coincided with me discovering...

    Muzzle Blasts Focus?

You can get a second year for $28.00 when you subscribe or renew. That is what I do. Being retired forces pinching pennies to pay for essentials like powder, shot and flints. ;)

    Muzzle Blasts Focus?

In fairness, you can save some $ with a digital subscription. I like real, paper magazines though, and have some Red Farris newsletters pre-MB issues from back in the 1930's and boxes of 1940-1998 MB I bought/subscribed when I lived only 5 hours away. Nowadays Friendship is a 2000 mile round...

    Muzzle Blasts Focus?

Dues have recently been raised from $50 to $75 a year. Too rich for me for just a magazine when my current enrollment expires after ~30 years. I'd say half the mag content has very little interest except to paper punchers who live close to Friendship. Take a look at Muzzleloader Magazine if...

    Choosing a brand of powder

I have unopened cans of Golden and Elephant. It was on sale on the close out table at Cabellas when the chain went out of business 6 or so years ago. Bought it as a curiosity. I have used Goex for 45 years. No reason to change at this point. I have a case shipped from Coonies when I get...

    Dixie Catalog

I added 300 miles to my round trips between Texas and Ohio so I could swing by Union City, Tennessee in the 80's. Two trips a year each way kept me well stocked.

    Scheels LIMITS Caps?!?

Yep. They recently had 1K at a decent discount plus free hazmat. Price was still more than I like to pay, but my ROA wanted to come out and play. Natchez and others have similar sales fairly often. I am glad to have the 1000 caps on hand and only cried about the price for a little while.

    Many New Members

Welcome! I first shot the Holy Black in 1971 and dove off the deep end starting in 78. Good, helpful, somewhat snarky group here. Enjoy!!

    Scheels LIMITS Caps?!?

Agree. Been ordering powder by the case for 25 years since it became impossible to find in Houston. Finally broke down and ordered 1K caps at a disgruntling price, but I like to shoot my ROA's. Glad I shoot flintlocks more and more though. A couple hundred pounds of soft lead and I will be...

New bench & vise; need ideas for small bench and good vise

Here is an older discussion. https://www.muzzleloadingforum.com/threads/building-a-work-bench.125742/ @billraby has gone through several iterations of benches over the years in his videos. He posted here in the last 90 days about his latest and best to date in the 4 Bore Rifle Build #2 -...

    Another name for #40 drill?

Let us know please. I cannot get through JoAnn's ordering system and it is 80 miles to the nearest store showing it in stock, so need to try someone else. Wallyworld ticking seems a lot looser weave than it used to be. I can see points of daylight through it even after washing and drying.

    Home-brew Permalyn

Just wanted to add a comment to make sure you use dewaxed shellac. I get it as prills/buttons and store said prills in the freezer until needed. Does a good job of sealing odors in antique dresser drawers. Dewaxed shellac is compatible with every other type of finish, or so I have read. I...

    Home-brew Permalyn

One of the answers to Questions is that it is tung oil based. SDS says 60 pct solvent (naphtha) with up to 2 pct chemical driers. I have not personally used it.

    Best Animal fat for lube?

Rendering bear is a PITA when I first started, but I am getting better and quicker at it each year. Last one was about 40 pounds of fat from my neighbor plus a very nice roast for "tromping through yer land". I gave him half of the rendered oil back for treating his bald spot and baking...

    Best Animal fat for lube?

Pure bear grease or bear oil. What you get depends on what the bear has been eating.
