French Broad Rifles Annual Fall Primitive Weekend October 4th,5th and 6th.

Thanks for all concerns. We cancelled due to the disaster. Depends on where you were at, some total devastation, lots of trees down. Me, no power or water. Water in Asheville may be weeks yet. Too bad, it was a beautiful weekend, would have been great for a shoot.

Newbie Question: Which side of the patch do I grease?

Extra care must be taken when using the striped pillow ticking. It is imperative that you lube the side with the predominant color (the outside). Bad juju may occur if you lube the inside.

Natchez Shooters Supply has Remington No.10 Caps

Got notification from Midway a couple days back that CCI #11 were available. But with HAZMAT for 1000, came to $15 per 100. Didn't bite because I had loaded up with RWS in March for $12/100.

    Track of the Wolf

I learned awhile back to make it worth my time. I'll put together a substantial order that absorbs the shipping cost. It kills you when you just order a few small things.

    Patch question

No they don't look burned. They are exhibiting a carbo ring on the outside which may indicate a loose load. A tighter load combination or the addition of a wad under the patched ball will mitigate that. It also looks like maybe the patch is getting cut at loading. Could be from a new barrel...

Need some advise on my finished stock

To steam it out the finish must be removed. I would do it now. Use some alcohol and remove a minimum area to be steamed. Unless you have something smaller than an iron, the area will need to be that large. I was smart enough to knock over and step on a rifle I just finished (on my rough asphalt...

    Buckshot Loads in a Smoothie?

What is the caliber of your bore? The shot size matters a lot when talking about smaller smoothbore calibers. A very basic load to start with is equal volume powder and shot. So let's say 75 grains powder and same volume of shot.

Sounds like you have a real conundrum on your hands. The best option would be for you to send me the NIB Kit and alleviate your anxiety concerning it.

    ASM 1847 Whitneyville Walker value?

I have an opportunity to make an offer on one of these, looks like a mid to late 1970 production. What are your estimates on current values?

    CVA Kentucky

Another issue with blockage can occur if the threaded nipple shaft is long. It kinda bottoms out in the flash channel and fowling can build up there real quick.

    CVA Kentucky

Pyrodex is your problem, but the magnum caps should take care of that. Good advice from Grenadier, do what he says. The replacement cleanout screw might be interfering with the flash channel from the nipple. Even if there is just a small intrusion of that screw into the nipple area, a thin...

Anyone else's gun like a very tight load ?

If its working for you, great. I shoot a .495 ball and pillow ticking. Never really measured it. You don't mention what powder or lube you are using, that may explain the inability to load a second shot without swabbing. A hint on swabbing between shots. Your patch should be damp, not wet. Your...
