    1f for 12ga

I 'm no expert but I do use 1F and 2F BP. I have several original double barrel 12's that do really well with square loads. My go to load for Squirrel is 1f - 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 oz of # 5 lead and kills them stone dead. I believe better than modern guns. I also believe the 1F is easier on the old...

    Mr Bobby Hoyt

Yes that is not the Mr. Hoyt that I know. Talked to him this week about doing a Jug choke on a double barrel 12. Very helpful.

Questions about Original Muzzle loading Shotguns

Sir I have several original English SxS 12ga and they will all shoot a little different and you have to shoot them a lot to figure what works out. I have one that loves 1 1/4 or 11/8 of # 5 lead square loads with 1F powder kills squirrels with either barrel at honest 30 / 35 yards. I have...

    Back into antiques…

Yes, exactly the SxS I have are what was a common hardware store variety many makers some better quality the others. I do have an Original 1861 Springfield that I shot NSSA competition with for years and a few deer. It has a replacement barrel made by Yeck.

    Back into antiques…

They were built to be shot. I have 5 old 1840 - 1870 era 12ga. SxS muzzleloaders I hunt with and shoot all the time with approvable BP loads. Still working on my wing shooting abilitilys ..

    Double barrel shotgun

Yep I have been and one of mine really patterns great out to about 35 yards. Be working on others next few weeks. Have 1/4" and plenty of thin overshot cards. Also made a punch and experimenting with card board best seems to be free boxes you can get at post office to ship stuff. Thanks

    Double barrel shotgun

What are you using between powder and shot? What overshot card? Same for target and hunting loads?

    Double barrel shotgun

Nice. I to shoot Original English doubles have several. I have always use 1F to create lower pressure. But really don't do well on shooting trap combination of no chokes and I believe slow lock time because of 1F. Is your 65 g of 3f a square load with 1 1/8 oz?

    Another option for caps.

Yes, sir I'm impressed. If you make # 11 and start selling them, I want some.

    2024/2025 Squirrel Hunting Thread...........

I have a 32 and it is just too much of a pain to load and clean. I have to patch between shots after a few and I drop those little balls. The 36 balls are easier to hold on to and I have killed my limit of 6 even with a few misses and don't have to swab.. Just saying. Every bit as accurate

    SMR Pig

Son is in USAF and stationed in Georgia. I live in Virginia. We hunt mostly WMA's and on base some. 2023 I killed 6 with muzzleloader and he has like 35 with muzzleloader and a few with CF. Can't hunt them now because can only pursue them when hunting another game species. Will be after them in...

    Double barrel shotgun

Yes, to above post. Barrels are solder and then BP are screwed in, and they should be indexed to barrel (line). If they ring true, I'd use it. I find a good load to start with in the 12 bore. Is a 45/70 brass case loaded equal amounts of powder and shot. V.M. Star recommended.
