New owner question: Should I go ahead and buy Slix Shot nipples?

New nipples are not gonna cure cap jams. My thoughts are to run the ones you have. I would go with nipples that fit the most common caps you can find in your area, where I am it's CCI # 11s. The cap jam issues can be solved to nearly 100% by installing a cap post and action shield. A revolver...

    Load for Uberti Walker Revolver

His about face on the short arbor not being an issue is baffling as well. I do like the "empty gumball machine machine" remark, that one is unique.

I am really start to doubt Mr Deland on his gunsmithing prowess. Starting to think armchair quarterback. It really sounds like a case of my way is the only way and by golly it's the only way. When someone refuses to keep learning regardless of what is being shown then that person is stagnated...

    Dropped Dragoon?

But that takes all the fun out of it! I do enjoy resurrecting a good basket case every now and then.

    Dropped Dragoon?

I ain't scared! I look at it as a challenge to be taken. It would be interesting to see what other things are damaged or outta whack.

There are several methods to fix the short arbor. First thing is to check for the short arbor by tapping the wedge in as far it will go. If the cylinder locks up it's short. Fixing it can be done by adding washers in the barrel socket and adjusting the barrel/cylinder gap to .002 to .004 using...

What I find interesting is the about face here with some folks, they are onboard when the Colt document was revealed about the arbor needing to be seated yet now that thought has turned 180 degrees. Either you believe the short arbor is a problem or you don't. By not believing it you can go...

    Navy Arms Brass Frame Revolver

That cross pin is normally soft steel. Drill it out with a slightly smaller drill bit. Center punch it first. I suspect the treads in the frame are stretched since it's a brasser. It may or may not be salvageable at this point. I don't believe JB weld will hold it for long. Keep in mind that the...

    Too much trouble.....

Curling iron papers are much easier to work with than the cigarette papers and they burn completely.

Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver - nipples needed

You can make one like the one shown, I don't see the need for the long cut up the side tho. I make them from Chinesium 1/4 drive sockets. Pick the ones that closely match the diameter of the base of the nipple. I use a Dremel cut off wheel to make the slot.

    Happy to help!

    1858 Remington cylinder bolt lockup

Maybe try adding a little bit of tension to the left bolt leg. If the cam doesn't show wear you can bend the bolt leg slightly so it will follow the outer edge of the cam rather then slip off halfway. One can also make a groove around the outside of the cam so the bolt leg will track the outer...

    Enough spark?

Some locks like the flint bevel up, some want it bevel down. It seems to be a little forward in the jaws. Cut a slot in the leather as suggested and move it back in the jaws. Everything else looks good from where I sit.

    Colt Dragoon Identification

Do you plan on shooting it? Not to sound like a broken record...fix the arbor. Plus a heads up, the signature series need a lot of work on the internals.

    Too much trouble.....

Amazon has fireworks grade potassium nitrate. Pretty cheap too. Nu Wave end papers work well, they are tougher than cigarette papers and burn completely. They do leave a ring of paper in the bottom of the chambers that is from the glue from the end cap. They don't cause any problems. Just load...

Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver - nipples needed

Check with Track of the Wolf, they list a lot of nipples. The originals are not metric threads. Are you able to remove the nipples from the original cylinder?

1861 Pietta Colt Navy Barrel Length

You could have it cut to the length you want. It involves moving the loading lever latch and front sight plus trimming the loading lever and reinstalling the latch. Have done a good handful lately.

Any info on a Navy Arms pistol

With the brass frame 100.00 to 150.00. Barrel/cylinder gap .002 to .003 as stated before. Light loads only to keep the frame damage to a minimum.

    1851 Navy

Indeed they have, from a tuning perspective the internal parts are really hard steel especially the hammer. The good thing is the arbor has been corrected although every now and then one gets by being too long.

    Load for Uberti Walker Revolver

If the arbor is correct and the pistol is properly set up full house loads won't be a problem. Once again look at Mike's posts on shooting 45 acp loads in his open tops.
