    Thank you for the compliment. I don`t use magnification, but do need it. The carving is about 8 x 11, so not too tiny. It`s done on maple, acme super extra hard brand. Fire hardened, i found out yesterday that this wood used to sit over a wood stove to keep weight on it for whatever reason...

    the wood needs to be rehydrated, looks to have been stored out of the weather, but it may be too far gone.

    The plaster used in casting steel is a much different plaster- ceramic is generally used. Saw it done in Dubai, wax, slurry, sand,slurry and so on till its thick enough. Then the melting of wax and pouring metal.

    Took a 180 year old nipple out of an Enfield pattern 1839. Soaked for over a month in ed`s red, hit it with a propane torch. clamped on the vice grips and it came out like it was put in yesterday. Worked on a Zouave original as well.

    Walk, i`ll be joining you soon in that wonderful weather out west. Worked on this for the last day or so. Is going to be embedded into a table for the SNCO & Officers mess at the base i`m currently serving at. Used to be Fort Pepperell for any of you old guys who did a stint in Newfoundland...

    used clay mold to make model cannons from lead for ship models when i was younger- 10-12 or so. Never a problem. made a plaster of Paris mold to cast pot metal- got about 4 castings from it before it “wore out” Made a soap stone mold for my .32, quite successful

    Box made of 2x8 or bigger, plywood front and back. Fill with sand. When the plywood is shot out, take the sand, sift and put back in new target box. Make new balls and Minies from recovered lead
