    Paper or steel ?

if soft lead was more common, I’d shoot steel More often. I do with round ball rifles where i can use harder wheel weight lead

    Small ASM chambers?

Was cleaning my range and recovered about 200 .36 cal balls from my ASM. The fairly undamaged ones have very little rifling marks. Thought that was odd, so i chambered a ball, knocked it out and set in on the muzzle crown. Didn`t fall down the barrel, but almost. I can see the rifling grooves...

Fired 50+ shots from my 51 navy yesterday, did a white cloth cleaning. Residue everywhere. Will stick to the full strip and cleaning after each session.

    1860 Sailors

Are there supposed to be sailors on the decks of the ships on the cylinder of an original 1860 Colt army? can`t seem to find a clear picture of the cylinder, and heard that there was Sailors depicted.

Informal Shooting - Alone or with Friends?

Prefer alone, unless my son is with me. Anyone else it becomes a social event and not a lot of shooting gets done, and its generally my ammo- future son in law will be needing to bring his own soon

New to cap & ball revolvers

while i don`t have a NMA, my ROA takes .457, my 1860 army takes .457, and my Dragoon 2 Gen takes .454. the .454 slide very easily into the cylinder of the 1860 army, i`m assuming it was honed during the re-furb it was given before I got it. don`t shoot the dragoon much, it`s very heavy for worn...

    What would you choose?

would have to be the .58 1863 Remington. its got a very worn bore but shoots roundball and minnie effectively out past 100 yds. the worn bore allows it to shoot shot ok at ranges under 30 yds. there is not a huge amount of small game up here in the north- traps, snares would be effective there...

    Making Wads

Baby-bell wax has a high melting point untill mixed with the shortening. it does not seem to go rancid. it stays "sticky" used as a minnie ball lube, and won`t crack off in storage. it can also be applied cold with a finger in the field. i use plastic clamshell containers that socks and...

    Making Wads

Punch mine from old military boot insoles- the winter boots. Then slice them and get 4 wads per. My lube is 50-50 baby bell cheese wax and crisco. Works great on wads as well as on Minnie balls. I`d probably buy them if there was a supplier handy to my location though. My wife works in the...

    Percussion cap making

tried the stuff out of the red plastic caps mixed with 4F. Worked very well. Wouldn’t do it on a regular basis, too nit picky but i know it works if i have to do it. Putting 4 F in the red caps worked just as good.

    Pietta 1851 Navy

my ASM 51 Navy has a hard time penetrating 3/4 plywood at 75 yard but i`d not want to be hit by it. will embed deep in the wood though. have not tried it on an oil drum though.

    Eye protection

Just some screen shots of me shooting an 1863 Remington. Took a video just to get the fireball, but an errant spark came back and hit my glasses in ten top left corner of the right lens. Exploded on contact, left a small divot in the lens and a lot of white residue over the lens.. don`t want to...

    Shooter`s den Sudbury

On my drive across Canada, i found this little place in Sudbury, ON. Bought a .36 RB mold, BP, caps and a pile of other stuff. Just phone ordered a .457 rb mold from Dennis, the owner. anyway, for those in the great white north, this guy has more black powder stuff jammed into a tiny store than...
