    Thoughts on a Cooey barrel

Hadn`t thought to taper the bolster. Is a very good idea. My lock is not in Canada yet as far as I Know. Bought it from a member here. Kinda holding up production but not really. the barrel is pretty straight, there is not a lot of barrel to work with. Standard .22 cal unmentionable barrel. the...

How to make the stock look old.

i think if it`s artificially aged, it`ll end up looking like you got it at TJ Maxx, winners or home sense or some home decor place

    Bandsaw...will it work?

yeah, used tools i know about. Used tools are cheap and a dime a dozen. most are not worth what’s being asked, if they are they are still in the sealed box. If those are cheap- they`re probably stolen. Would only buy older brand name solid tools, not plastic cased- especially if they need work...

    1858 Remington/Pietta AA marking

if it was stupid cheap, i`d take tha chance on it. He wouldn`t provide photos other than those two, and the asking price in my opinion is too high. He claims to have fired it about 100 times and to be the second owner. Would come with a box and a half of ball. I have bought guns that looked good...

    1858 Remington/Pietta AA marking

$325 Canadian, is approx 2500 km from me, so i cannot handle it. I am passing on it unless he decides to drop his price and accept $250 CDN. I am not a gunsmith and really don`t want a pig in a poke, if you will. I ask you guys because you know about these things.

    Chris Hirsch lock plate?

I did that after i posted the thread. I will need to contact him to get my missing screws, and possibly some advice on how accurate the witness marks are. The lock plates are pretty identical right down to the squiggles above the circle fox. I think they are letters of some kind, hard to tell

    Chris Hirsch lock plate?

Quoted from the current ‘Trade Gun” thread in the Smooth bore” forum. “Just for comparison, and to show some of the markings, here is a reproduction of a very fine old Belgian Northwest gun lock, from Chris Hirsch. Note the "Fox in Circle" stamp, generally associated with the old Northwest...

I want to move on and experience flintlocks. Any suggestions as to a starter flintlock?

My first long rifle was a pile of castings and a plank. I built it, then i got a book on how to build it....working on my second which will be from a bunch of used bits and parts, and some will be made

    Minie for .50 1/72 twist

My flintlock has a 1:56 twist- it is ok with a Lee modified minie, but have not really worked uo a load for it. Hit a playing card twice at about 40 yards with it, but the loads that were accurate were fairly under powered.

Is the 36 caliber becomming extinct?

My brother in law checked out my .32 CVA last year. He is an avid moose hunter and professional hunting guide on the Great Northern Penninsula in Newfoundland. he is not a muzzleloader guy, but he really wanted it.
