    Lead could dissolve a marriage

Eh I wouldn't get upset with a loved one over tossing some lead. Everyone makes mistakes, and lead is cheap. Perhaps the guy just doesn't love his wife, in which case it's time to be honest with her.

    tick treatment

Speaking of ticks... This morning I grabbed my rifle, walked out onto the lawn to start shooting, and I felt something on the back of my neck. It was a tick crawling up my neck. I have no idea where it came from.

If I go bushwhacking on my land, I'll return home with 30 ticks on my clothes. If I spray down with DEET before the walk, I'll have 0 ticks.

    Antler Short Starter

I put a couple hundred balls down the muzzle of my barrel. The Hickory stem is definitely hard, but I can see that eventually it will wear out. So I am going to add a brass tip.

    Antler Short Starter

Nothing special. But since I made it, I thought I'd post a photo. The round ball starters hurt my hand after a couple long days of shooting, so I made something a lot more friendly. The stem is 4 inches long. Fire-hardened cupped tip, not that Hickory needs to be hardened... Red Deer antler...

    Lead ammo ban in Wisconsin?

There is international scientific consensus on the dangers of lead ammunition. In Merchants of Doubt, Oreskes and Conway (2010) showed how denial of scientific evidence has been a strategy used by those with vested interests in important health and environmental issues such as climate change...

    inexpensive spotting scope recommedations

Contradiction in terms. Don't bother with an "inexpensive" spotting scope. You'll be throwing away your money. There is no such thing as "inexpensive" optics that are functional or usable. I brought a $200 Barksa scope with 5-star reviews and it was not usable on the range except at 25 yards...

    My balls

Update So, yes, the Lyman molds are cut deeper in the block, so the sprues are longer. I did some grinding on the top of my Lyman mold so that the "throat" is now negligible. I am going to do just a tad bit more grinding with sandpaper and a sanding block. Today I cast 650 balls, and here are...
