    St. Louis Hawken recoil

I use fifty grains in my Hawken .58. It does not hurt me. Eat your spinach.

What is the best percussion lock .

I agree. You "think" there is no difference because you don't know.

    Elephant Powder

The trick to success with Elephant powder was the type of hammer used on the rifle.

    Hearing Protection?

I've always used ear protection when shooting. Didn't when at work. I have some hearing loss.

How Long Have You Been Hunting ...

I hunted from an early age about 1965. Took my first deer when I was 14. Still have the rifle. Hunted and fished every year until about 1982. My work took me on the road at that point and hunting regulations were changing so much I just couldn't hunt any longer. I did go on an elk hunt on the...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I spent the day trying out my new bullet. The wind was blowing so hard I didn't have much luck. I did figure out new ways to keep all my stuff from blowing off the bench. The trunk lid hit me in the head about three times. It was fun anyway. Next time I go the wind won't blow.

What are your specific offhand shooting exercises if you do any?

First time I ever heard that. Vaguely similar to a sock darner but I think it's just coincidence. Most people just call it a palm rest. I've tried the chalk idea several times but as the match goes on I tend to change my stance slightly. Don't know anyone that does it. I prefer my trigger arm...

Best material for range rods ?

Use a bore guide. Your steel rod will never touch the bore. Then there is no chance dirt grime and abrasives can be imbedded in your plastic or wood beads. Bore guides have been around forever. You can make one out of anything solid.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I cast twenty one bullets with my new bullet mold and profiled the tip of the bullet starter to fit the nose of the bullets.

Best material for range rods ?

How to start conicals perpendicular so groups don't have flies

Size your Maxi Balls down to bore diameter. They will go down straight. Cast them soft. Use soft lube.

    Imported Guns Are Junk

Presently I own one modern import percussion rifle. The rear sight went in the junk drawer first thing. The rifle has poorly executed cut checkering. Very accurate rifle. I like it. I've seen other imports that look like crap. They don't have to look good to shoot good. I've seen import...

I just cleaned a percussion rifle. It was easier than cleaning a flintlock.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Today I shot a new acquisition for the first time. She's a keeper. It seems to like the 250 gr Saeco.
