Weight and Balance for Offhand Rifle

I just re-read the OPs first post. When using a flintlock I prefer a light rifle. No sense missing the target and hurting my back at the same time, lol.

Weight and Balance for Offhand Rifle

I like a heavy rifle, a light trigger and it helps when the stock fits me. Oh, and a short hammer throw.

Your best deal acquiring a muzzleloader, either trade or purchase

I lost a pistol in a divorce one time. So I swore I'd never get divorced again. But it happened again as it does to many good men. But this time I sold all her rifles on the way to my attorneys office to file papers. :)

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

I received a rifle via UPS. The caliber was advertised as .40. Slugged the false muzzle and it turned out to be .396 groove diameter. So then I checked the bore and it's real nice. Checked the twist which turned out to be a gain twist that is 24 or less. Being an old antique I was worried the...

    Old time lub

I been using Jojoba oil on paper strips for a long time. Good stuff that Jojoba oil. Just a few drops goes a long long way. Same with most other oils. If I ever run out will go back to PSF or 3 in one oil. Or mineral oil or olive oil. A friend gave me a metal oiler and said it was still full...

No, my post had the desired effect. Thanks. 😁

    Mag Spark

I have one on a underhammer but it uses large rifle or large pistol primers. Positive ignition, no leakage.

    Flintlock vs Percussion Cap

I have both. Cap guns are easier to shoot and maintain. Flinchlock mechanisms are perty much all the same. Seen one seen them all. Need to go out and shoot a flintlock. No sense having one unless you use it. BTW, Flinchlock threads 9.6K. Percussion 13.3K.

    Ballistol is top notch... not!

I use mineral oil in my lapidary saw. Never effects my skin. No smell that I can detect. So maybe it's the secret propriatary distillate that causes problems with skin and makes it smell rancid. Any old oil works for me. Uh, er, cept bear oil. I had a smith put bear oil on trigger parts. Turns...

    Ballistol is top notch... not!

My can of Ballistol warns that it is harmful or fatal if swallowed. What does CLP stand for? Hitler must have been one tough dude.

    What was your first Muzzleloader?

.50 Navy Arms percussion Kentucky rifle. It kicked my head off everytime I shot it and gave me a black eye and a headache so I traded it for a dog. That dog liked me a lot better than that Navy Arms rifle did.
