Why not try to build some by Yourself , as I did and do ? Only things You need is : -a sample , which You try to copy -a cutoff of an old barrel , ( or a good new one ) -some O1 - steel , -a torch for hardening/tempering , -basic tools like ( lots of ) files and a drill with some drill bits...

    unknown underhammer

    unknown underhammer

Is it possible to post this section here since I can't find anything like this in the net ? Meanwhile , I've managed to tinker a hammer and installed a nipple , but since I don't like the odd shape of the original hammer , I shaped mine somewhat like the hammers of the late Ruggles - patent...

    unknown underhammer

But even such a highly educated and trained tinkerer or backyard gunsmith of yesteryear seems to me to have not built but one ( this entire ) pistol ! Never before , I've seen such a system , but I think and hope , there should be more survivors of this kind . Metal- and wood analysis tell ...

    unknown underhammer

Sometimes it takes a bit of luck, patience and forists , who drew my attention to this underhammer pistol in an auction . It was described as a “Belgian underhammer pistol from around 1850” which, with the exception of the type and the date of manufacture, cannot be correct because it would...

Danish Target Pistol, request info. on Maker

Just as a thought : Maybe , this outstanding pistol once was sold in Germany , after the then new gun proof law took place . This meant , that EVERY new made firearm had to be poof fired and proof stamped from then on . Firearms , which were made before , but sold after/in this time , had...

    Percussion Pistol Identification - Breslau

This in fact is one of a typical pair of (then) German duellers . The nipple was perhaps replaced by one , being a little bit longer than the original one . With a shorter nipple , the sear will prevent the contact of the hammer , when it is turned down , and will also prevent the loss of a...

Rebuild of an antique American Side hammer pistol

Finally , my small family of rebuilds of this odd sample is complete : - a heavy target pistol in .362 - a buggy gun in hefty .290 - a not so heavy target in .362 Each single part , screws , springs , slabs , sights etc. , is completely made by my hands , having only used an over 120 year...

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

Today , I've tinkered a bullet starter/seater from some brass and steel for a 1851 Swiss Feldstutzer , which not only should deliver an absolutely concentric patched bullet , but also calibrates the bullet by pressing through : And this is how such an original , vintage starter looked like :

Am I the only one who doesn’t really care for carving on a rifle stock?

Well - sometimes , some tasteful decoration can REALLY look good , like on this Gastinne Renette in my small , poor collection , ( which is a perfect shooter ) BUT - my favorite target pistol ( for the moment ) is this : my absolutely plain and completely selfbuilt tackdriver : or ...

torque setting for percussion pistol nipples

Good God : Finally , we're still talking about the torque of a percussion nipple ! Cover it with some copper , zinc or whatssoever compound for easening unscrewing , tighten it as firm as You can by hand , SHOOT IT , and after shooting , unscrew the nipple , clean it and the entire barrel as...
