    Pedersoli Frontier

I have a Frontier flintlock in .32 caliber. Very dependable lock and the rifle shoots PRB into 1 1/2" at 50 yards. I have not actually 'timed' the lock time - but I feel mine is just as fast as a percussion. (Which I also have.)

How cold is too cold for you to shoot?

I like this thread, good to see the various approaches. For target shooting I lose interest when it gets colder than 20 above zero. The coldest I've ever hunted in was 15 below zero, no more of that thank you very much. We have built an elaborate shooting house on our range, but it's not heated...

    Nipple removal

The local 4-H Shooting Sports blackpowder discipline had a stainless Remington '58 revolver which in its entire life had never had the nipples removed. Five of the six were a real struggle but I managed to save them. Number six held on for dear life. Soaked that cylinder in I don't know how...

    Latest Acquisition - .58 Harper's Ferry Pistol

Good point. I've got leather scraps laying around for that very thing. (Old checkbook covers, etc.) It's -16F here right now, so no range time for the undetermined future.

    Latest Acquisition - .58 Harper's Ferry Pistol

I'm trying to decide on that very thing. (smooth vs rifled) The pistol happens to be rifled so haven't decided what to do.

    Latest Acquisition - .58 Harper's Ferry Pistol

It seems as though I should start looking for a .58 caliber flint rifle.

    Gunsmith of Williamsberg 1969

Brit, glad you had a chance to see this. It's fun to watch on a number of levels. David Brinkley's narration is so easy to listen to. William Devane was only two or three years into his acting career when doing his part of the narration. Above all (for me at least) is the way Wallace Gussler...

I'm sure you're just looking out for my best interests - right? Lol

I forgot to say that it's a Pedersoli.

    Latest Acquisition - .58 Harper's Ferry Pistol

My local gun store got this in as part of a trade. Worked out a deal where I traded $150 (my cost years ago) worth of unmentionable powder and ammunition even up. Unfired with some handling marks and a perfect bore. The lock sparks perfectly.

    .32 cal flintlock groups

I have not owned a Kibler product - yet, so I can't speak to their potential. I do own a pair of Pedersoli Frontiers in .32 caliber - one percussion and one flint. They happen to have a 48" twist and shoot those tiny patched round balls into 1 1/2" at 50 yards. My eyes aren't good enough to...

    Custom hawken

Bore diameter is very important!! Sometimes they charge when they're wounded!!

    1/48 twist & round ball?

I have 32", 48" and 60" twist rifles in both .50 and .54 bore. All the rifles shoot round ball very well (one ragged hole) out to 50 yards. My experiences with the 48" twist mimics others here that the charges may have to be reduced a tad for optimum results. Once I go out to 100 yards though...

    58 good and bad

I like that - gotta add 'whompability' to my vocabulary.

What Muzzleloading Stuff Did You Do Today?

A watershed day. The seven year old grandson asked 'how old guns are'. A good conversation followed - ending with me showing how you check if a flintlock rifle is truly unloaded before sparking an unprimed lock in a blacked out room. Wide eyes and a big smile. Score!

Got that right! I'm in Cambridge - only 40 miles.

Welcome to the forum. If I may ask, in what general part of the state are you located?

    Inconsistency

I think your groups look good to me. I have a pair of .32 Pedersoli Frontiers, flint and percussion - a 48" twist. The load I use in both is a .315" Hornady swaged ball with a .015" mink oil patch and 30 grs. Goex FFFg. In my rifles this will shoot 1"-1.5" at 50 yards off a bench with sandbags...

Ames, I confess I had never heard of a peanut box. I like the look.....hmmm....

Mine look very similar to your design. I don't see mortar - did you use construction adhesive on the blocks?
