    It's good, shoot it.

    Swage bullets

It's still an imperfect process and being in the same box does not guarantee that the alloy is the same.

    Frizzen Opinions

I "feel" the same but cannot prove it. Curious though Rich, at what point can a collection of "Long Trek Missouri Chert Flints" be considered as collectible? Asking for a friend ........... :ghostly:

    Swage bullets

In my experience, there is a considerable reject rate in home cast that just does not show up in swagged projectiles, not all voids are visible and will go unnoticed unless you weigh them individually and segregate accordingly. I have seen the action of cutting the sprue on a home cast ball...

    Frizzen Opinions

I've case hardened everything from Siler's to L&Rs and Caywoods (lock plates, cocks, frizzens, bridles, screws etc) to various flint strikers and have had no problems. Back when I joined the forums (2006) Jerry Huddleston was freely sharing his case hardening techniques over on the ALR, I...

    Possible ring in barrel?

Fingers are very sensitive and can feel a .001 difference in surface elevation imperfection (slight bulge) run your fingers down the barrel, if it's bulged you'll feel it.

    Swage bullets

A lot/most all of commercially supplied bullets/balls are swagged, eliminates overheated/under-heated molds as well as voids in the finished product.

    TVM Woes! :(

So you would rather there not be any negative press, for all of the complaints there are enough cheerleaders to keep the lights on and doors open.

    TVM Woes! :(

Not sure that the internet is their enemy as much as is the lack of re-sale value, it is no different than buying a factory muzzle loader, a new car/truck or manufactured home, once you drive it off the lot the re-sale value drops like a rock, you will never get your full cost back out of the...

Chrony a black powder shotgun can it be done?

Curious how it would react to the wadding typically used in the muzzle loading smooth bores as it tends to trail away, wonder if it would give multiple readings. I use an Oehler 35P that reads just dandy, but the pathways through the screens are quite large and an aluminum shield keeps the...

Chrony a black powder shotgun can it be done?

I have, depends on the chrony, best to make a paper shot cup to contain the lead as long as possible. Also a good idea to fabricate an aluminum? shield to keep the wads/cards etc from hitting the equipment.

    Frizzen Opinions

I honestly don't think that one process is any better than the other, for those without the proper equipment adding a sole is gonna be easier than case hardening, far fewer steps involved and no need to worry about critical temperatures and the difference in temper between the face of the...

Case hardening is not that difficult and there is tons of information available to get the process right.
