    New Fowler Shooter

Oh yeah, I've seen several of Mike's videos, including loading and shooting his fowler. I didn't recognize his name in print. He's a good guy.

    Granddaddy of Production Muzzleloaders?

How I wanted a .45 caliber Hopkins & Allen Minuteman long rifle, flintlock with gain twist rifling, when I was a kid. Years later, I got a flintlock .50 caliber Dixie Tennessee Mountain Rifle kit and put it together. I still have that one.

    Soak?

Why take the fun out of beans?

    Wads

The leather wads were recommended by George Markland in his 1717 poem "Pteryplegia: The Art of Shooting Flying."

    Soak?

If you pressure cook them that way, you can skip the overnight soak. You won't know the difference. They likely recommend that just to cut down on noise from people objecting "But you HAVE to soak dry beans!" And the old tough beans cook just as tender as the fresh ones.

Fancy Feast cat food, that is.

    Wads

Thin cards work well to seal gas from passing through porous filler wads. I use cardboard disks punched from the cardboard separators between layers of Fancy Food cat food cans, with loose sawdust as a filler. Works perfectly.

    Where to buy lead shot?

Lead mining and smelting is pretty nearly gone in the US. A lot of the stuff Rotometals sells is 2-3% antimony, likely recycled from wheel weights we used to collect free from shops, and reclaimed shot from trap ranges.

    Where to buy lead shot?

Here's a suggestion for buckshot in a 20 gauge: Lee has a .311" round ball mold. Those will stack in layers of 2 size by side in a .62 caliber bore, just as 000 buckshot of .36 caliber stacks in a .72 caliber 12 gauge. In my 15 gauge .677" bore (sold as "69 caliber"), 3 of the .311" balls stack...

That's exactly what happens. Greener shows it in "The Gun."

    New Fowler Shooter

I'm no fowler expert. I'm no reenactor or PC stickler, either. I ordered, very patiently waited for, received, and am quite pleased with an Indian made "New England Fowler" that has what appears to me to be a 1717 French musket stock with the front extended for a 51" long "69 caliber" barrel...

Chambers English vs New England Fowlers

I have an Indian made "New England Fowler." It has a 51" long barrel, and is 68" long overall. It is a bit long for carrying. My 2014 Dodge Challenger's back seats quickly and easily fold down, and it slides right in. I haven't tried shooting on the wing, either birds or clays. It's slow to get...

Scam Business Alert - Supposedly Selling Percussion Caps, Etc

I fell for a percussion caps scammer. The address they are using is reloadersshop.com . It works just like the original post described. I have it onscreen in another tab right now, advertising smokeless powders. While I was looking a box popped up about someone in Philadelphia just buying 1000...

    Soak?

I like to pressure cook dry beans. About 25 minutes at full pressure, long natural cool down, no soaking needed.

    Wrapped bird shot

You mean, measuring shot by 65 grains volume powder measure? That's in the vicinity of 7/8 ounce lead shot. I've been doing it the other way, with a Lee shot dipper set to the amount of shot I want to load, and measure the powder with it, too. A 1 ounce shot dipper gives about 2 1/2 drams, just...
